MetLife is seeking a Research and Information Associate for its office in NYC.
As the Research & Information Associate this position will work as part of a small team on all functions of a Legal Information Center that services associates working in Compliance and the Law Department. Main responsibilities will include reference and legal research, managing training, occasional original cataloging of print and online resources and general support of the Knowledge Management function.
Principal Responsibilities:
The Research & Information Associate is responsible for complex research and managing the legal research training program.
Research and Training
•Conduct complex research and analysis on legal and business issues for the Compliance Department, the Law Department and others in company as needed.
• Lead the development, planning, organization and implementation of Training programs for online databases and research processes. Develop measures for outreach activities.
• Work with team to coordinate marketing and promotion of the library and resources through various methods of communication and activities.
• Manage research training for all new hires to legal affairs.
• Occasional original cataloging of new print materials and online resources.
• Manage relationships with vendor trainers and provides information or training to appropriate internal teams. Monitor external vendor training for efficiency and develop processes for improvement.
• Assist with collection development, based on knowledge of the library collection and user requests. Make recommendations for purchase or cancellation based on this knowledge.
• Other responsibilities as needed, including
- Monitoring of information resources for updates to canned 50 state surveys and coordination of interlibrary loans.
- Assist in the implementation of knowledge management strategies.
- Maintain Intranet Portal Page for Library and external resources.
- Subject Matter Expert on best practices for information organization including taxonomy maintenance.
Administrative Management
• Manage process for cancellations, returns and credits for unwanted or unsolicited materials.
• Manage relationships with vendor trainers.
• Manage maintenance of routing catalog of print and electronic materials. Provide and implement current awareness services as appropriate
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies Required:
• Master’s degree in information/library science or related field, J.D. or equivalent work experience. 3-5 years working in a library preferred.
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
• Thorough understanding of professional principles and practices of library science and records, information management, Knowledge Management, including principles of cataloging.
• Ability to work both as part of a team and independently.
• Ability to work creatively and demonstrate flexibility in a collaborative and rapidly changing environment.
• Strong service orientation.
• Proven presentation and instruction skills.
• Experience with Insurance Legal Research and Compliance resources.
• Familiarity with library catalogs, preferably EOS.
• Familiarity with NILS, Lexis, Checkpoint, Intelliconnect, Accurint, and PACER,
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience with current and emerging technologies. Ability to learn new technologies and skills quickly.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.
