Position Summary
The Princeton University Library comprises a large central library and 12 specialized libraries that are heavily used by an academic community that includes 7,800 students and 1,100 faculty members. To support the diverse needs of its users, the Library holds over seven million printed volumes and provides access to many other records of human knowledge, such as databases, journals, and microdata. The Library employs more than 370 professional and support personnel, complemented by a large student workforce. The Industrial Relations/Labor Economics Librarian serves as Princeton University Library's primary subject specialist librarian to serve the library needs of the University's Industrial Relations Section. Founded in 1922, the Industrial Relations Section (which is part of the Economics Department) focuses on teaching and research in areas such as unemployment and racial discrimination, unionization, the economics of labor supply and retirement, education and school quality, the effects on minimum wages, and labor turnover and job duration. It also engages in the training of graduate students in data collection and analysis and in the supervision of Ph.D. dissertations in economics. Manage the Industrial Relations collections; provide specialized reference and research services for Industrial Relations Section faculty, students and affiliates; review published literature and databases in the field of industrial relations, labor economics, and human resources management and select materials for the library's collections in print and electronic formats, including "born digital". Oversee production of Selected References, a broadly distributed biennial bibliography focusing on contemporary labor. Supervise .5 FTE support staff. As a member of Firestone Library's Research and Instructional Services Department, actively participates in a teamwork environment to develop and efficiently implement the direct provision of instructional, research and reference services to Princeton University students and faculty. Engages in library planning, special projects, and professional activities, and represents the Library at relevant professional organizations such as the Community of Industrial Relations. Evening and weekend hours as required. The Industrial Relations/Labor Economics Librarian reports to Economics & Data Librarian.

Essential Qualifications

MLS from ALA-accredited library/information science graduate program AND/OR advanced graduate degree in a quantitative social science such as economics or business program, with professional reference experience in an academic, corporate, or research library setting. Demonstrated ability and experience functioning successfully in a fast-paced environment with a strong public service orientation. Strong written and oral communication skills.  

Preferred Qualifications
Strong familiarity with the literature of the industrial relations/labor economics fields; expertise with bibliographic databases and with accessing economic, labor, and/or financial data.

The Electronic Resources Librarian for the FDU Online Library is responsible for researching, evaluating, recommending, and monitoring electronic resources to achieve global library capabilities, and training librarians, faculty, and staff in their use. The incumbent will coordinate the acquisition, licensing, management, and technical support of electronic information resources acquired by the FDU Libraries. These resources include, but are not limited to, databases, e-journals, e-books, and streaming media. The incumbent tracks the electronic resources budget for the FDU library system, negotiates contracts and coordinates all aspects of purchases of electronic resources for the University’s Online Library.

The incumbent serves as the sole liaison to vendors regarding electronic resource trials, acquisitions, licensing, pricing and technical issues and works with database providers, vendors, consortium partners, and other personnel to resolve problems with accessing electronic resources on either desktop or mobile devices. The Electronic Resources Librarian proactively manages technical changes to preempt resource access problems and responds to end-users’ issues with electronic resources in a timely manner.

Other responsibilities include providing accurate reports and usage statistics, training of librarians, faculty, and staff in the use of these resources, and promoting electronic resources through the FDU Library webpage and social media platforms.

This position reports to the Associate University Librarian for Technical Services. The Electronic Resources Librarian is expected to work independently, with minimal supervision. This is a University-wide position that requires communication with, and regular meetings at, the Giovatto Library, the College at Florham Library, and the Business Research Library. The incumbent will frequently be asked to participate in meetings of the 
University Library Steering Committee but is not a voting member of this committee.

Required Qualifications:

1. Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution.
2. Two years professional experience working with electronic resources acquisitions management, preferably in an academic library setting. Experience reviewing and negotiating license agreements as pertaining to electronic resources and the academic environment.
3. Excellent computer skills, including knowledge of electronic content delivery to both desktop and mobile devices. Experience with EZproxy and integrated library system (ILS) preferred. Proficiency with spreadsheet software such as Microsoft Excel also preferred.
4. Ability to work independently with strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
5. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
6. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with internal and external parties and diverse constituencies, including administration, staff, faculty, students and vendors.
7. Experience with instruction and training staff on technical topics preferred.
8. Valid driver’s license and accessibility to transportation for travel between campuses.

Position Focus:
Under the general direction of the Rare Book Team Leader, the Catalog/Metadata Librarian creates, enhances, and maintains original and complex bibliographic and authority records for a wide range of special collections materials in various formats for the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library. Plans, directs, and reviews work of cataloging assistants and/or student assistants. Participates in Library-wide planning and committee activities, and is expected to be active professionally.
The Rare Book Team is responsible for cataloging material ranging from incunabula to twenty-first century publications. Beginning in July of 2014, the Rare Book Team will be a unit of Technical Services within the Beinecke Library.
