The Department of Library at Kingsborough Community College is seeking self-motived candidates for Reader Services Librarian. The Reader Services Librarian in collaboration with colleagues, serves as a reference librarian, develops and delivers instructional classes, and participates in collection development in one or more subject areas. Supports the library through providing in-depth consultation with students and faculty and collaboration for the ongoing improvement of institutional programs and practices. Pursues an active scholarly agenda, performs supervisory duties, and participates in college and university-wide programs and committees as assigned. The librarian will attend forums, professional development workshops, and other faculty and/or college-wide programs as a participant and representative of library faculty. The successful candidate will also be assigned additional professional tasks according to individual strengths and experience. Candidate must demonstrate and maintain a record of excellence in librarianship, scholarly achievement and service for reappointment, tenure, and promotion. $70,238 - $79,188. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.

P/T - Catalogers-3 openings (Winthrop) (Remote)

CATALOGER – Remote

Winthrop Group has an immediate opening for three part-time Catalogers. The Catalogers will work remotely to review and correct legacy metadata in a Foundation’s digital repository. This item-level review will ensure accurate description and expand access to and discoverability of these important knowledge resources.

Project work is expected to begin in early November 2023 and will run for 12-14 months. Each Cataloger will be expected to contribute a total of 1,360 hours (equivalent to 170 days) to the project, with a weekly limit of 29 hours. Winthrop and Foundation staff will provide supervision and training. All work will be conducted remotely.

Work Responsibilities

The Cataloger will review and correct legacy metadata to ensure accuracy, adherence to internal guidelines, and proper use of the Foundation’s controlled vocabulary. Metadata will include basic fields, such as author, title, date, keyword, etc., and enterprise-specific terminology, such as department and program area. The Cataloger will work with the repository’s bibliographic editor and Foundation-provided spreadsheets. Regular meetings with Foundation project liaison and team members will provide the opportunity to troubleshoot any issues and review progress.

Requirements

Candidates for this role should ideally possess the following qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of professional experience working with archival materials, utilizing controlled vocabularies, ontologies, and metadata standards.
  • Proficiency in employing archive protocols and methods, adapting to existing standards, and working efficiently.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Google Docs.
  • Ability to conduct regular quality control assessments of completed work.
  • A collaborative and collegial attitude.
  • The ability to work effectively within the allocated weekly timeframes to meet project milestones and goals.

Compensation

$28 per hour

The Mina Rees Library at the CUNY Graduate Center is seeking a part-time reference librarian to support the day-to-day operations of the Dissertation Office during the Fall 2023 semester with the possibility of renewal for the Spring 2024 semester. This is a part-time position that offers a flexible weekday schedule between the hours of 9am-7pm for a total of 12-15 hours per week.

 

Conveniently located in midtown Manhattan, the CUNY Graduate Center was established in 1961 as the first publicly funded doctoral program in New York City, and it continues to provide access to graduate education for diverse groups of highly talented students, including those who have been underrepresented in higher education. Innovative research, rigorous scholarship, and collaborative and interdisciplinary learning define graduate education here, preparing students with the creative, problem-solving expertise necessary to thrive in and beyond the academic experience. 

 

The library’s Dissertation Office collaborates with Graduate Center academic programs and administrative departments to provide guidance, instruction, and support to graduating students depositing their dissertations, theses, and capstone projects. 

 

Key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Providing high-quality reference service in-person and online for questions relating to citation, manuscript formatting, intellectual property and copyright, and related topics;
  • Inspecting student manuscripts for compliance with format requirements;
  • Updating submission status in the bepress Institutional Repository and ProQuest’s ETDAdmin tool; 
  • Maintaining clear and accurate records of student deposits; and
  • Developing outreach and instructional materials.

 

Additionally, the part-time librarian may assist with special projects related to dissertations, theses, and other distinctive collections in the library. 

 

Qualifications

Applicants must have a Master’s in Library Science (MLS), Master’s in Library Information Studies (MLIS), or graduate degree in a closely related discipline from an ALA-accredited institution; an additional graduate degree is required for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor.

 

Successful candidates will have experience working in an academic library; experience providing in-person and online library reference; excellent verbal and written communication skills, and a strong proficiency with MS Word and academic citation styles. A working knowledge of concepts such as intellectual property, copyright, and academic publishing practices is preferred.

Responsibilities & Requirements:  We’re looking for a creative, forward-thinking, and enthusiastic person to join our dedicated team of Academic Engagement library faculty.  Reporting to the Head of Academic Engagement, the Academic Engagement Librarian is responsible for library instruction, outreach, and reference and consultation services. The Museum of Modern Art is currently accepting applications for a Collection Specialist in the Department of Photography to assist departmental curators with research and logistics pertaining to deaccessions, sales, and other collection-related matters. This is a three-year grant-funded, fixed-term position. 
 
Responsibilities:
Works with the Associate Curator and Collection Specialist to review and research the Photography permanent collection comprising 35,000 objects and the departmental collection containing approximately 40,000 images as they relate to potential deaccessions.
Coordinates the process of vetting works for sale/disposal with curators, the Office of the General Counsel, and the Collection Management and Exhibition Registration Department.
Answers related inquiries from outside researchers.
Works with outside sale venues to secure proposals, negotiate agreements, and coordinate the marketing and sale of works to be placed on consignment.
Monitors auctions featuring Museum property, takes note of bidding activity to share with the curators, and reports auction results to curators.
Maintains standards for cataloging photographs in accordance with the Collection Manual and Museum standards. Performs work in relation to the care of the collection and arranges for custodial, registration, and preparation work as required in the maintenance of the collection in gallery and storage areas.
Updates collections recordsboth physical object files and the online collection databasewith pertinent information and status changes.
Assists Department Manager, Registrars, and General Counsel with preparations for Committee on Photography meetings and Board of Trustees meetings.
Drafts reports on proposed deaccessions and prepares PowerPoint presentations of deaccession candidates for Committee and Board meetings.
Expedites arrangements for registration, conservation, framing, and preparation work as required.
Arranges viewings for museum curators, outside scholars, auction house representatives, and dealers to examine works in person at the Museum or at the Museum’s off-site storage facility in Queens.
Conducts daily collection gallery inspections and assists with follow-up arrangements in the event of damage, deterioration, etc.
Fields image licensing requests, and serves as Department representative on Image Licensing Committee as it relates to deaccessioning.
Works with the Provenance Specialist, helping to answer research queries received through the Museum’s Provenance Research Project email account.
Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above. 
 
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in art history, master‘s degree preferred, and three or more years related experience in an art advisory, gallery, auction house, or museum setting.
Demonstrated interest in photography, with expertise in cataloging and archiving, photography conservation, and developments in the digital field required.
Outstanding communication skills and knowledge of general office protocol essential.
Capacity to take initiative and work thoughtfully, thoroughly, and collegially, while handling several projects simultaneously. 
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Advanced knowledge of and facility with MS Office.
Familiarity with The Museum System (TMS) is helpful.

    The Chief Librarian will:

    Minimum Qualifications

    P/T - Community Archivist, Visual AIDS (NY)

    Community Archivist

    Part-Time (24 hours/week)

    Compensation: $25–30/hour, based on experience

    Duties include:

    Hands-on processing, arrangement, and description of existing collections

    • Complete folder-level description of Visual AIDS Artist Files (39 linear feet)

    • Publish a DACS-compliant finding aid for the Visual AIDS Artist Files in accordance with DHP grant requirements

    • Create a system for managing institutional records and arrange and describe unprocessed collections pertaining to Visual AIDS’ institutional history

    • Catalog and organize research library according to Library of Congress standards

    Interface with community members

    • Work directly with Artist Members and estates to gather and update biographical information and add additional physical and/or digital materials to the archive and Visual AIDS website

    • Facilitate in-person and virtual research visits and field research questions in a timely manner

    • Assist in developing community surveys and other forms of community input to ensure accessibility and inclusivity

    Develop and implement community-based archival policies and manage collections growth

    • Building on existing documents, further articulate plans for collection management and development that uphold Visual AIDS’ organizational values

    • Collaboratively envision strategies for the sustainable growth of our collections through new acquisitions, community engagement, and focused research projects

    The Community Archivist should:

    • Be a people person who is comfortable communicating directly and empathetically with our broad and diverse constituency.

    • Have hands-on experience in processing archival collections and archival management, preferably in a community-based archive setting.

    • Hold a Library Science, Information Science, Art History, or related degree, or the equivalent experience and expertise.

    • Have a strong interest in learning about the intersections of AIDS activism, related cultural production, and contemporary and historic artistic communities. Previous work in the field of HIV and AIDS is not required. Interest and familiarity with downtown New York art histories of the 1980s and 90s is a plus.

    • Take the initiative in organizing and structuring their day-to-day work

    • Be able to work in-person at the Visual AIDS office in Chelsea for the majority of their hours

    Commitment and Compensation: This is a part-time (24 hours per week) permanent position, primarily working in-person at the Visual AIDS office in Chelsea, New York. Compensation is $25–30/hr, based on experience. Benefits include 48 hours of paid time off per year and 40 hours of sick and safe leave per year.
