Competitive Intelligence Manager, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey – NJ

Oversee the monitoring of market and industry trends to facilitate competitive response through marketing and sales initiatives, strategic planning, product development and marketing strategy. Research and analyze the competitive health insurance environment in New Jersey, providing objective, in-depth information about current and emerging market participants (including competitive rate and product design analysis),ensuring that there is a thorough understanding of the key competitor strengths, weaknesses and points of differentiation in product, service, communications and provider networks.
Responsibilities:
  • Execute the sourcing of primary and secondary sources of market and competitive intelligence across a broad range of competitors and market segments. Collaborate with internal and external business partners to identify business issues/concerns and resulting competitive intelligence requirements.
  • Conduct large scale complex competitive analysis projects, applying expert analytical methodologies to deliver detailed insight into market forces and dynamics. Utilize standard frameworks (e.g., Porters Five Forces, SWOT, etc.) and custom reporting to develop findings.
  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to interpret research/analysis outcomes and synthesize findings into actionable recommendations that drive business decisions at the strategic, tactical and operational levels.
  • Develop clear, concise vehicles for presenting and communicating recommendations to various levels of organizational leadership.
  • Track key metrics to track company performance and evaluate brand strategies and tactics versus major competitors.
  • Contribute to sharing of best practices and continuous improvement across the department. Proactively identify opportunities to collaborate with internal partners to aid in developing new strategies and tactics.
  • Identify trends and innovations in product design, pricing, service delivery models and customer/consumer engagement. Translate findings into insights and actionable recommendations that drive strategic, tactical and operational business decisions
Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of primary and secondary research and competitive intelligence methodologies and techniques. Experience working with leading industry research and knowledge portals.
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to analyze large data sets, identify insights, and synthesize how these insights impact business decisions. Ability to distill technical information into consumable reports for internal partners.
  • Solid interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills required. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to a wide range of audiences, including executives, product managers, product development and client-facing teams, and support their market intelligence needs.
    Proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional business teams.
  • Ability to work independently, with limited supervision, to perform multiple complex and often unique work assignments.
  • Positive, team-first, results-driven attitude.
  • Self-motivated, highly organized individual with strong attention to detail.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel and PowerPoint. Knowledge of statistics or other quantitative techniques or disciplines.
Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in Marketing, Business Administration or related field. MBA preferred.
Experience:
  • Requires 5-7 years strategic analysis, competitive/market intelligence and/or data analysis experience. At least two or more years of experience working in the health insurance industry, either as an employee or a consultant.
