Dir. Enterprise Data Governance and Mgmt., Becton Dickinson – NJ
The primary purpose for this role is to ensure that BD maximizes the performance of its data management systems and that these systems provide high quality information for making business decisions. To achieve this objective, this role must execute against the data governance and operating models developed for managing the company’s data assets.
This is a global role that will need to work in an integrated manner with BD’s EDP technologies and business process capabilities.
In this role, the Director Enterprise Data Governance and Management has ownership for execution of key elements of the company’s data strategy:
- governance and operational models that control and sustain data effectiveness, efficiency and cost.
- formalization of stewardship and accountability for the creation and usage of master data.
- integration of data management initiatives into critical business processes.
- identification and prevention of master data sources of variability and non-compliance.
- Data Design – Leads a team of functional experts in data lifecycle design and operation
- Data Operations – Ensuring that the data operating models and capabilites are aligned with the evolving strategy and needs of the company.
- Enterprise Master Data Design Governance and Continuous Improvement – Evolving the data design models in a highly consistent and integrated fashion. This activity occurs in alignment with the Enterprise Business Process Management operating model.
This role is the most senior leader responsible for the daily execution of the company’s data strategy.
Financial Impact:
Data management and data integration activities have a direct impact on business initiatives such as improving business performance, cost effectiveness, marketing decisions and financial regulatory compliance.
Quality Impact:
This role has the overarching responsibility to ensure that Master Data Processes are well designed and executed. Master data quality variability and non-compliance will likely lead to a significant impairment in BD’s ability to make informed decisions around some of our most critical business processes such as:
• How to approach our Customers.
• What products to make.
• How to conduct a product recall that could impact end user health situations.
• Where to source critical raw materials.

Required Skills and Knowledge:
The Director Enterprise Data Quality and Management must demonstrate competencies in the following areas:
- Data management processes, with a history of process utilization.
- Good understanding of the IT guiding principles and solid experience with the implementation of ERP/integrated systems.
- Strong knowledge of at least one key supply chain mega process (i.e. Order To Cash). This includes all master data elements that support these processes.
- Management of cross functional teams and working in a highly matrixed environment.
- Strong influence and communication abilities across a diverse culture.
- Hiring and staffing.
- Building effective teams and fostering open communication.
- Coaching and developing others.
- Strategic agility and business acumen.
- Championing of change and innovation.
- Lean, Six Sigma certification.
- Project management.
- Deep knowledge of SAP Master Data including attributes and content configuration, functionality as well as upstream and downstream data flows.
- A minimum of ten years of Business Process or Master Data Management required.
- A Bachelor’s degree is required.
- A MBA is preferred.
