Position Summary
This position has four-fold responsibilities, with a high
managerial component: to train the student workers and coordinate
their schedules, to manage the Technical Services holds, to locate and
retrieve material requested by patrons, to catalog LC, member, and
selected original copy, using all associated skills required of
catalogers (e. g., acquisitions and authority work). Hold management
requires daily physical work, such as moving large amounts of books from
shelves to book trucks and other locations, and opening boxes, many of
which weigh 30 lbs. or more.
Essential Qualifications
The position requires a person adept at multi-tasking with demonstrated history of management and training.
Daily responsibilities entail creation of bibliographic records at all levels from preliminary to full original cataloging. Primary job elements include the management of student workers; efficient movement of books in and out of the Technical Services holds maintenance of hold statistics, supervision of shelving and item retrieval.
Ability to open and move boxes and to move books from shelves to book trucks is required, as is familiarity with spreadsheets and electronic files.
The position requires an advanced level of ability to search, interpret, create, and edit online catalog records and understand their relationships.
The candidate must be able to communicate effectively with a variety of Library staff in written and oral form, to work in a team-based mode, and to handle multiple tasks in an efficient and coordinated manner. The position demands sustained, detailed work at a computer.
A Bachelor's degree is required.
One-three years of related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of relevant acquisitions records and processes is preferred.
- Experience with technical services functions in Voyager or a similar bibliographic utility is preferred, as are foreign language skills.
NOTE: This is a one year term position with the possibility of renewal.
