CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The candidate will participate in the Library's information literacy program which includes for-credit instruction, course-related information literacy classes, and drop-in workshops for students, faculty and staff. Responsibilities may include, as assigned, design and teaching of classes; scheduling of instruction; outreach to and collaboration with faculty to integrate information literacy into the curriculum; development of teaching materials; adaptation of new instructional technologies to local needs; experimentation with various models for the delivery of library instruction; planning and implementation of assessment of library instruction; and organization of professional development for Library faculty. Candidate will also provide one-on-one research assistance at the Reference desk; contribute to collection development by serving as liaison to one or more academic departments or programs; and participate in the work of committees of the Library, the College, the University, and professional organizations.
LaGuardia Community College is part of the City University of New York (CUNY) with access to the libraries, computer systems, senior colleges and graduate school of that system. Conveniently located 15 minutes from Times Square in the rapidly developing community of Long Island City in western Queens, LaGuardia has an enrollment of approximately 17,500 students in academic programs. Sixty percent of the student body is immigrant, coming from over 160 countries and speaking 127 different languages. More than one in three LaGuardia graduates enrolls in private and public four-year colleges within a year of graduation. The College was named one of the top three large community colleges in the United States by the Community College Survey of Student Engagement in 2005. In 2006 LaGuardia received the MetLife Foundation Community College Excellence Award for its innovation in post-secondary education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
For Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor designations:
Ph.D. degree in area(s) of expertise, or equivalent as noted below. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, interest in productive scholarship or creative achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
For Instructor designation:
A Master's degree in area(s) of expertise, and/or active progress toward a Doctorate, or equivalent as noted below. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, interest in productive scholarship or creative achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
For appointment as an Instructor: ALA-accredited MLS degree.
For appointment as an Assistant Professor: ALA-accredited MLS degree, plus second Master's degree or doctorate.
Candidate should have at least one year of library experience.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work with people at all levels in a collegial, collaborative environment are also required. Teaching experience preferred. Supervisory experience a plus.
COMPENSATION
Instructor: $47,434 - $59,206
Assistant Professor: $51,195 - $68,024
For all ranks, salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
