Associate Director of Development

TITLE: Associate Director of Development
ORG. TYPE:   Museum and Research Library
LOCATION:   New York, NY
SALARY: $90 - $110,00

Position Summary

The Associate Director of Development, for this prestigious Museum, will report to the Deputy Director for External Affairs.
  • She/he will be charged with designing and implementing  the program for unrestricted giving from individuals at all levels
  • Oversee all aspects of the unrestricted giving program, including (but not restricted to) membership, the annual fund, the Director's Circle, donor patron groups, and individual grants: prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, database management, and stewardship.
  • Prepare all related reporting material.
  • Supervise acknowledgement process for all unrestricted gifts. Write and tracks all solicitation and stewardship materials related to individual giving.
  • Prepare annual Development Department budget, setting income goals and expense projections.
  • Design and implement Director's domestic and international travel programs
  • Plan and organizes cultivation and other events for members, major donors and prospects.
  • Attend all relevant events, including some evening events.
  • Supervise  Membership Coordinator and Development Assistant.
Qualifications
  • Minimum eight years development experience, preferably in an art museum and familiarity with the New York City philanthropic community.
  • Broad knowledge of development, with a strong background in membership, annual giving, donor research, and donor cultivation.
  • Capability to build, develop, and retain strong, positive relationships with members, donors, and colleagues; adept at dealing with sophisticated constituents.
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills; a confident style that is coupled with sensitivity and flexibility.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate, teach, and mentor junior staff. Excellent organizational, administrative and project management skills. Independence, initiative and imagination.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize multiple projects
  • Minimum eight years development experience, preferably in an art museum and familiarity with the New York City philanthropic community.
  • Knowledge of Raiser's Edge a plus. Bachelor's degree in related field.
