Knowledge Manager, Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) – NJ


Novartis is seeking the Knowledge Manager in its East Hanover, NJ location, who will support the Novartis Knowledge Team by providing consultative services and education programs to customer groups in all divisions of Novartis and with a special focus to the Pharma – Development / Clinical Trials.

It provides easy access to a robust e-Library of high value external Scientific Technical, Medical (STM) and Business News Information resources and knowledge management services.


The Knowledge Manager will support the Novartis Knowledge Team by providing consultative services and education programs to customer groups in all divisions of Novarts and with a special focus to the Pharma – Development / Clinical Trials.


Primary Responsibilities

A qualified Knowledge Manager will be expected to:


Research, analyze and synthesize information into accurate answers or actionable information for clients across scientific and business disciplines


• Effectively partner with key user groups to link information products and services to specific business needs
• Lead independent knowledge and information projects and services with a focus on pharmaceutical R&D and clinical trials

• Effectively manage local team of Knowledge Specialists and assume responsibility for teams’ results and work quality

• Monitor quality of NKC products and services generated by local team to ensure high standard of value added services

• Employ evidence-based management to demonstrate the value of and continually improve information sources and services

• Represent department at internal and external meetings

• Evaluate and recommend new information resources, platforms and search tools


Minimum requirements:

BS in a scientific discipline such as biology, chemistry, or pharmacology from a respected institution, an advanced degree preferred, such as PhD, or MS in a medical science


• At least five years of relevant industry or research experience, working in information sciences, knowledge management or competitive intelligence


• Solid understanding of the pharmaceutical industry with inisghts into the entire R&D process with focus on development / clinical trials


• Fundamental understanding of information engineering technology applications such as semantic web technology and text mining techniques and tools


• Solid knowledge of MS Office Word, Power point, Excel and other office business tools


Additional Skills Required:

• Keen understanding of the pharmaceutical industry with focus on the R&D process and clinical trials


• Ability to prioritize and deliver results across a variety of customer needs


• Professional attitude and service orientation with ability to communicate and consult with core customer base


• Possess excellent oral and written communication skills


• Demonstrate proven ability to positively impact project goals and directions based on analysis of available information

• Proficient with scientific, medical and business databases with experience searching Medline/Embase, Biosis mandatory
