Health Sciences Librarian Fellow, NYU Health Sciences Library – NYC


NYU Health Sciences Libraries invites applicants for the position of Health Sciences Librarian Fellow, a one-year fellowship that will prepare the individual for a career in health sciences libraries and health services research. The fellowship is slated to run from September 1, 2013, through August 31, 2014.

Summary


The Health Sciences Librarian Fellow supports the information needs of the faculty, students, and staff of the NYU School of Medicine, NYU Langone Medical Center, and other health sciences units. As a member of the library’s division of Research, Education, and Clinical Support, this individual will share in the division’s goals of increasing the capacity of faculty, students, and staff to use health information resources effectively; address access problems to information resources; and promote the use of innovative information-management tools and techniques. This individual will also participate in the library’s liaison service, which is focused on identifying and meeting needs for health information resources in specific departments and other health sciences units across NYU. This position reports to the User Experience Librarian. This is a non-tenured faculty appointment in the NYU School of Medicine.

Responsibilities



◦Provide online and in-person reference assistance to library users

◦Assist in the development and implementation of subject- and department-specific LibGuides

◦Provide training on resources such as PubMed, EndNote, and RefWorks

◦Develop online tutorials for the library website and elsewhere as appropriate

◦Provide support and backup for other librarians

◦Serve as a member of library committees and working groups

◦Participate in faculty research projects



Qualifications


Required


◦Master’s of library science from an ALA-accredited institution, granted within the past three years at time of application

◦Interest in issues and trends in academic medicine, library and information science, and biomedical informatics

◦Enthusiasm for working closely with varied users in a dynamic academic medical center

◦Knowledge of basic health sciences information resources

◦Strong public- and customer-service skills

◦Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

◦Excellent written and verbal communication skills


Preferred


◦Coursework related to health sciences librarianship

◦Experience creating or using online information resources such as LibGuides, instructional videos, and virtual ticketing systems

◦Instructional experience, both one-on-one and in groups

◦Undergraduate degree and/or background related to health sciences


Compensation


This position offers a competitive, professional-level salary and full benefits, including support to attend the Medical Library Association (MLA) Annual Meeting and for other professional development opportunities. Support for relocation is not provided.
