Job Description
The Research Center Manager will receive a generous total compensation package. Bonuses are awarded in recognition of individual and firm performance. As a Research Center Manager at Latham, you will contribute your expertise to the daily operations of Research Center staff while assuring compliance with all policies and procedures of the firm. The Manager will use his or her advanced research skills to ensure that the Research Center is providing the highest level of reference services to the Executive Committee, Financial Information Center (FIC), Strategic Client Committee, Global Business Development and the Global Chairs, while accomplishing these and other critical functions:
•Supervises all Research Center services, including project assignment, selection of resources, delivery of results, and follow-up with staff and attorneys to ensure quality control.
 •Supervises and develops the Research Center staff. Organizes, assigns, delegates and directs the work of the staff to ensure department objectives are met timely and accurately. Generates a formal performance evaluation for departmental employees.
 •Works with appropriate members of global departments regarding the following areas: selection, training, coaching, and disciplining departmental employees.
 •Ensures accurate and timely completion of assignments and inquiry responses. Ensures that all tasks and duties completed are done within the firm’s set guidelines and policies.
 •Works with Director of Libraries to locate new databases, etc. Supervises orientation sessions for management regarding library procedures and provides training on the full range of information resources.
 •Leads Research Center staff in awareness of current developments in legal news and information services, specifically with developments on Lexis, Westlaw, the Internet, business databases, and specialty databases relevant to the office’s practice areas, and from time to time apprises local office reference staff of these developments.
 •Creates and executes project work plans and revises as appropriate to meet changing research needs of Executive Committee, FIC, Strategic Client Committee, Global Business Development, and the Global Chairs. Remains at the forefront of new and emerging industry practices/trends.
 •Coordinates with other areas / departments of the firm where overlap exists to develop efficient procedures / communications to stream-line processes and satisfy various department needs.
 •Assists with special projects on various issues as needed.
•Promotes effective work practices and works as a team member.


As the Research Center Manager, you will be expected to apply your organizational and communication skills while displaying a positive, high-energy attitude. The successful candidate must have the ability to lead and drive complex operational projects, establish appropriate timelines and manage deadlines, and possess strong organization and time management skills, excellent leadership skills and strong analytical and problem solving skills. A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required, and a Master’s degree in Library Science or a law degree (JD or equivalent) is preferred. Six (6) years of research experience in a law library is required, and prior management and supervisory experience is highly preferred.
