The Library is seeking Librarians to empower patrons of all ages to become creative thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and resourceful users of information. Working with their team, Librarians are responsible for:
- Partnering with community-based organizations, schools, daycare centers, city support agencies, and community groups to promote library services
- Developing innovative programs to build literacy, further education, and foster a love of reading, including early literacy, visual and performing arts, STEM and homework help, summer reading events, gaming, reading clubs, and instructional workshops
- Promoting our collections and reading through readers advisory, recommendation lists, blog entries, author talks, book discussions, and other innovative methods
- Fostering digital literacy and providing age-appropriate technology instruction
- Developing and maintaining the collection as well as the layout and appearance of the space, ensuring a safe and inviting area filled with relevant resources
- Developing content for social media platforms
NYPL Librarians must have a passion for creating an environment that encourages patrons to follow their interests, discover new ones, learn from their peers, and of course, embrace reading. He/she must possess effective communication skills and experience providing customer and reference service. He/ she must also have experience creating and conducting innovative programs. MLS required.
