F/T and P/T - Tech Services Coordinator and National Residency Program Coordinator - METRO (Manhattan)

Come work with us at METRO! As we look to the future of library services in New York City, Westchester County, and beyond, we are seeking two individuals to work closely with our staff of 15+ on programs and initiatives that will expand our ability to provide top-notch service to our membership.

Technology Services Coordinator (Full time)
The Technology Services Coordinator will support Digital Culture of Metropolitan New York (DCMNY), an online collection hosting service for members of the Metropolitan New York Library Council. In order to do so, the Digital Services Coordinator will need to be comfortable with Linux, Fedora Commons, Drupal, and custom PHP modifications. The ideal candidate will be confident with this technology stack and is up to date on other frameworks and repository solutions (e.g. Apache SOLR, Ruby/Rails, Blacklight, Hydra). She or he will make recommendations and lead a migration to a different platform should this be advantageous.

The Technology Services Coordinator will also have an outward-facing role at METRO; she or he will engage with the New York/Westchester technology community beyond the library world. Civic hacking, big data, data literacy, physical computing, the IoT, and gigabit fiber networks are topics that should get you excited and light you up with new ideas. This outward-facing role will lead to new initiatives, new opportunities, and new perspectives at METRO. The Digital Services Coordinator will be central to their design and implementation.

The Program Coordinator is a temporary, 20-hour per week position running from date-of-hire through June 2016. This position is open to both new and experienced project managers and information professionals interested in supporting libraries, archives, and cultural heritage through managing a professional development program focused on digital stewardship.

The position’s responsibility will be as day-to-day coordinator of METRO’s National Digital Stewardship Residency in New York (NDSR-NY) program, an expansion of the NDSR program launched by the Library of Congress and Institute of Museum and Library Services in 2012. The NDSR-NY program is a three-year, IMLS-funded initiative to build a post-Master’s residency program for new professionals to work on digital stewardship projects in NYC-area libraries, archives, and museums. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for working with NDSR-NY’s Principal Investigator on all aspects of the program.
