Mount Vernon Public Library Substitute Librarian:
The Mount Vernon Public Library is seeking substitute librarians on an on call basis for up to 17.5 hours per week.
Closing Date: Open until filled.
Pay Rate: $23.84 per hour.
Substitute librarians are scheduled on an as-needed basis and do not have a set schedule or guaranteed number of hours.
The substitute librarian will:
Provide Reference and Readers Advisory for the Children’s and Reference Department.
The Substitute Librarian will be on call to cover the adult computer lab, children’s computer center, and computer center.
Assist patrons with in locating materials and resources in both children’s and adult departments.
Answer and follows up basic and complex reference questions using both electronic, print resources, the internet and databases.
Place holds on requested materials and requests interlibrary loans.
Assist patrons in using computers and other equipment including photocopying and printing.
Assist patrons with digital media including downloading audiobooks and e-books.
Helps
patrons in the computer lab and computer center with Microsoft
Applications including Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Powerpoint, and
Microsoft Word. Assist patrons with the internet
and online job searches. Help patrons with email including setting up
email accounts and printing email.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Able to work in a culturally diverse environment.
Able to work with both children and adults.
Graduate Degree from an American Library Association accredited library school.
New York State Librarians Certificate.
Strong customer service and communication skills.
Proficient with computer office applications and able to help patrons with them.
Proficient with automated library systems and online search tools.
