Reference and Instruction Librarian (P/T), Stevens Inst of Technology – NJ
A temporary part-time reference and instruction librarian position is available in the S.C. Williams Library at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J. The part-time librarian provides releave services for the full-time professional library staff. This includes regular reference desk coverage and occasional teaching of one-shot sessions in the Fall semester. The position will run from April 2014 through December 2014 requires 20 hours a week.
Requirements:
MLS from ALA-accredited library school; one or more years of experience as an academic librarian, including in-person and virtual reference experience.
-One or more years of bibliographic instruction experience.
-Knowledge of Springshare LibAnswers/LibChat software
-Awareness of databases in the STEM fields
-Must be able to work well within a culturally diverse environment with the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.
Job Duties:
-Assist in reference desk coverage and occasional teaching in the Fall semester.
-Responsible for four hours on the reference desk (unless assigned a fifty-minute instruction session) from 11am to 3pm daily, providing reference assistance to students, faculty and staff.
-Reference work may include: assisting with formulation of research strategies; assisting with use of library catalog, databases, and other tools; help in locating and evaluating books, articles, and other materials for use in assignments and research; providing answers to reference and directional questions as appropriate.
-Reference coverage includes being logged into LibAnswers and LibChat so experience with these programs is preferred.
-Must have some understanding of the needs and focus of an academic library serving a STEM school.
-Other duties as assigned.
