Information Resources Director, Sullivan & Cromwell – NY
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Plan and set goals and objectives for the Information Resources Center. This responsibility includes determining the services needed, the most effective way to provide them, and the resources necessary to support them.
- Manage the Information Resource Center’s financial resources. This responsibility includes developing and administering the budget, negotiating favorable contracts, reviewing and approving expenditures and overseeing the reference librarians’ billable time.
- Manage the Information Resource Center’s personnel. This responsibility includes hiring, training, developing, motivating and evaluating staff.
- Strategic planning for the provision of research services to support the firm’s practice groups. This responsibility includes working with the Manager of Research and Technical Services to oversee the provision of reference services, including setting policies, managing reference personnel, and evaluating, selecting and negotiating contracts for electronic research tools.
- Work with the Manager of Research Training to oversee research-focused orientation and training programs for lawyers and legal assistants and ongoing practice-specific training sessions.
- Oversee the firm’s Copyright Compliance Program, including managing the Copyright Clearance Center contract, setting and communicating copyright policies and obtaining copyright permissions as needed.
- Maintain the S&C Archives collections, including the storage, organization and cataloging of items pertaining to the firm’s history.
- Oversee the firm’s intranet, including long range planning and day-to-day maintenance.
- Oversee content aspects of the firm’s Knowledge Management Program, including working with the Manager of Knowledge Resources on management of West Km and other precedent collections.
- Oversee the Information Resources Center’s technical services operations, including acquisition, cataloging, routing and storage of materials.
- Coordinate the development and application of library technology. This includes selecting, implementing, evaluating, and monitoring computer equipment and software.
- Anticipate and plan for potential threats to business continuity.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervises and manages all Information Resources Center staff, especially in regard to attendance and job performance.

- M.L.S. required; 10 + years in Library experience, preferably in law firms.
