Position Available: Library Director III, Thrall Public Library District of Middletown & Wallkill;
Middletown, New York 10940; effective 1/3/11

Salary: $80,000 - $90,000 based on experience; excellent benefits including NYS Retirement
The incumbent in this position functions as the chief administrator of the library. The work involves carrying out broad policy as determined by the Library Board of Trustees. Supervision is exercised over the work of subordinate supervisors, including professional and clerical personnel.
The population for the district is 48,800 and the circulation is 260,000 plus.
The Director prepares the budget and monitoring of expenses; develops and evaluates plan for library services, evaluating the effectiveness of the library’s services and programs in relation to the changing needs of the community; supervises the work of library department heads and administers personnel policies; hires & recommends appointments, promotions, dismissal and staffing patterns of personnel; reviews and/or develops policies and procedures for the operation of the library; represents the library before governmental agencies and community groups; prepares and reviews performance evaluations of staff members; conducts staff & department head meetings; recommends and administers policies on the purchase of library materials; recommends and/or administers public relation programs; supervises the maintenance of library property and recommends repairs, alterations and new construction; keeps informed of professional developments through participating in professional organizations, workshops, and professional materials.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Six(6) years of professional library experience, two (2) years of which shall have been in supervisory or administrative capacity. MLS degree from an ALA accredited library school and eligibility for Civil Service appointment as Library Director III required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a current New York State Public Librarian’s professional certificate at time of application. Urban library experience preferred.
