The Weill Cornell Medical College (WCMC) and Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences announce their search for the Director of the Samuel J. Wood Library and the C.V. Starr Biomedical Information Center. This is an outstanding opportunity to lead a premiere academic department in a major medical center and to partner with other informatics thought leaders throughout the institution to imagine, create, and manage a dynamic, modern information research facility in support of education, research, and clinical care for the next generation and beyond.

Reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer, the Director leads a staff totaling 42, including 8 faculty librarians and 25 additional library staff; a professional print shop with a staff of 6; the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center Archives with 2 faculty archivists; and the Myra Mahon Patient Resource Center. The medical library provides information resources and services to the Weill Cornell campus of the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and is open to employees of all affiliated teaching hospitals. The Director maintains close relations with the director of the library at the WCMC-Q, the branch of the medical college in the Middle East, with the library director at the Methodist Hospital in Houston, and with the University Librarian and senior library staff at the Ithaca campus of Cornell University.

The Library Director has overall responsibility for the strategic planning, management, budgeting, marketing, administration, and leadership of the Library and its divisions and will be critical in leading the Library through a successful transformation into a next generation facility.

The Director should have an established record of leadership and transformational vision in a health sciences library in an academic medical center; more than a decade of progressive management experience including either print and electronic collection development or information discovery and access services, staff supervision, budgeting, and financial analysis. managing; demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging digital technologies and services in support of medical education and research; excellent administrative, management, and interpersonal skills, including demonstrated ability to lead change. Must have the ability to meet WCMC faculty requirements for appointment at the rank of Associate Librarian or Librarian, including a record of professional achievement, research/scholarship, and service. An MLIS, MLS, MSLS, or PhD is required.
