Head of Library Materials and Acquisitions, Teachers College Columbia University – NY
The Gottesman Libraries at Teachers College of Columbia
University seek an individual to oversee the library supply chain to
ensure the rapid and efficient delivery of essential materials and
services for library patrons and staff. The Acquisitions and Supply
Chain Supervisor will be expected to identify sources, conduct
comparative analyses, develop agreements, arrange for payment, delivery,
and access, and analyze use to ensure the greatest impact for the
lowest cost within the annual budget.
Responsibilities for this position include:
Monitor current and emerging needs of patrons and staff for materials and information services
Identify both traditional and emerging suppliers of materials and services
Conduct comparative analyses of vendors and offerings Define agreements for the provision of materials and Insure on-time delivery and access
Conduct on-going analyses of materials and services use to drive the refinement of the purchasing program
Minimum Qualifications:
Outstanding communication and collaboration skills
Masters of Library Science or equivalent degree.
Background of educational and work experiences that represent the major acquisition and supply chain areas and applications
Demonstrated problem solving skills on large and small scale issues with ability to undertake projects
A track record of participation in all phases of the acquisitions process
Demonstrated capacity to deliver in a fast-paced service environment
Supervisory and team building experience
Proven ability to analyze current and emerging patron needs
Familiarity with suppliers in the library and information sector
Experience working with technical systems and staff who develop and support them
Ability to articulate an interest in the education sector and a vision for new technologies and materials to advance learning
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience conceptualizing and deploying acquisitions and delivery systems and protocols
Familiarity with current cataloging and inventory management systems
An academic or professional background in information science, library science, education, or related disciplines
