Hospital Librarian, Patient Care Services, University Hospital – NJ
Qualifications: Bachelor’s
Degree in Library Science or Information Technology or Health Education
required; Master’s Degree preferred. Must be proficient in the use of
technology-based library systems; for example, scholarly information
resources and databases, electronic journals and books. Familiarity with
consumer health resources. Able to present short workshops on
health-related topics. Multilingual skills, particularly Spanish, is an
advantage. Excellent organizational and communication skills (written
& oral) is essential.
Responsibilities: The primary purpose of the Hospital Librarian is
to coordinate planning and implementation activities associated with the
Phase 2 Health Literacy Initiative under the direction of the Director
of Education and Professional Development,. The Hospital Librarian
coordinates staffing and outreach activities associated with the Health
Education Center in the UH Lobby, Ambulatory Care Center, Emergency
Department and University Hospital Cancer Center. This includes
recruitment and supervision of students, provision of consumer health
services to patients and families, creation and acquisition of low
literacy, multilingual health information, and program planning
associated with disease-specific and health & well-being topics.
