JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Search Analyst, Product Information

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Builds controlled vocabulary and thesaurus entries; focuses on elaborating the vocabulary and the
relationships/inheritance systems amongst the terms.
- Researches products and analyzes product specification data for thousands of items.
- Pinpoints terminology, attributes and categorization structures critical to product definition and retrieval
in search.
- Analyzes and advances industry trends in classification, faceted search and data modeling.
- Optimizes data models to drive search and PIM optimization.
- Responsible for working closely with web-driven data (i.e. worst performing keywords) to
improve/enhance/expand and to associate with proper nodes of the taxonomy.
- Performs keyword level analytics and manages an overall program which may include managing an
outside partner (including QA of an outside partner’s work), integrating with Search-Related
Technology (e.g. Product Information Management System (PIM), Endeca, Core Metrics) and
- Responsible for competitor, industry and manufacturer research as it applies to improving controlled
vocabulary and thesaurus.
- Responsible for Data mapping of keyword dictionary to Nodes and Noun Modifiers.
- Supports analytics and profiling efforts for data enrichment and enhancement efforts.
- Partners with Subject Matter Experts to validate controlled vocabulary expansion and mappings.
- Helps develops reporting standards.
- Gathers insights from multiple data sources and makes informed decisions to improve performance of
search.
- Develops analysis and make recommendations leading to improvement opportunities.
- Supports the MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company to ensure unity of vision and
fulfillment of MSC’s mission.
- Participates in special projects and performs additional duties as required.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree in an analytical field, or the equivalent work experience required. Graduate training preferred. Library and Information Science (MLIS) or Linguistics highly desirable.
- Minimum 3 years experience in a similar role required.
- Experience with data modeling, taxonomy and schema development required.
- Understanding of PIM and ecommerce systems and their relationship to the data model preferred.
Experience with information architecture and developing a controlled vocabulary/thesaurus required.
- Knowledge of SEO and SEM desirable.
SKILLS:
- Strong analytical skills required.
- The ability to model, optimize and audit large volumes of product data across a broad array of industrial
products required.
- A strong interest in industrial products, including product terminology, applications and product
origins/evolution preferred.
- Top-notch analytical and problem solving skills required.
- Keen editorial skills and attention to detail required.
- Advanced Excel and Access skills required.
- Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability multitask in a fast-paced environment
required.
- Experience with eCommerce product data strongly preferred.
- Ability to establish relationships and communicate effectively with product experts across multiple
Product Management Teams required.
- Experience with web analytics required
- Ability to execute to the detailed production plan required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
- Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability multitask in a fast paced environment required.
- A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel are required.
