Responsible for the day to day management of the NY office library, including collection management and acquisitions for the branch location, space planning, and supervision of office library staff members. Responsible for the coordination of library reference and research services provided firm wide. Other important activities include training and orientation, outreach to departments and practice groups, continuing development of services and resources, and use of technology to improve services and operations. All branch library activities are conducted within the context and policies of the firm wide library. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Manage the office library. Supervise and evaluate library staff, including training as necessary and appropriate. 2. Select and manage local print collection development to meet office needs; approve invoices for payment; advise on electronic collection development to meet firm-wide needs. 3. Under the direction of the Manager of Library Services, oversee the cataloging of office collection into integrated library system. 4. Contribute to space planning projects; plan and oversee weeding projects, shifts, and moves to new or renovated library facilities. 5. Oversee local work in the integrated library system, making certain that firm wide standards of data entry are met. 6. Coordinate library reference operations and set priorities among library research activities so as to provide the best possible service for the entire firm. 7. In consultation with the Senior Manager of Library Services and other managers, set and enforce reference service policies; develop methodology for tracking and recording reference activity; oversee compliance with methodology. 8. Provide legal/business/ intellectual property research services to all members of firm, in all locations, at all levels of inquiry complexity, using appropriate sources and analyzing results for presentation to the user; bill for research time. Requirements: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS CONTINUED: 9. Participate in and oversee orientation of legal and non-legal staff in use and resources of the Library; contribute to the Library's formal and informal publications and outreach activities. 10. Teach legal/business/ intellectual property research, particularly effective use of online databases, to individuals and groups, using appropriate educational techniques and tools. 11. Participate in development of electronic resources and new technologies, including portal resources for practice groups, access to electronic publications, and knowledge management initiatives, such as West km. 12. Perform other duties as assigned by Senior Manager of Library Services 13. Travel to other offices for meetings and training. ESSENTIAL CAPABILITIES: Ability to keep up with new materials, changes in resources and techniques, and shifts in information demands; resourcefulness in obtaining needed materials and information. willingness and ability to actively contribute to project teams as well as work alone. Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time well. Cheerful, friendly, and out-going demeanor; should be both creative and pragmatic; must display good judgment in decision-making and project management. Commitment to providing high-quality library service to a large group of demanding users in a fast-paced business environment. Must be team-oriented and able to share information, goals, opportunities, successes and failures with the appropriate parties. Ability to plan, organize and carry out multiple related activities. Ability to work in a multi-office environment. Must pay attention to details and have the ability to follow up and follow through.
Additional Information: EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED: M.L.S. from ALA-accredited library school, and/or J.D. from ABA-accredited law school. Five or more years of research and management experience in law libraries, preferably law firm libraries. Experience with a wide variety of electronic information services and ability to instruct others in their use. Knowledge of IT, including websites, portals, and knowledge management. Experience in law library acquisitions and collection management desirable. Strong skills in computer use, including Microsoft office suite. Supervisory experience required.
