Instr/Ref Librarians (2 positions), NYC Coll of Tech-CUNY (NY)


The New York City College of Technology, CUNY, seeks to hire two tenure-track Instruction/Reference Librarians at the Assistant Professor level.


FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Ursula C. Schwerin Library at New York City College of Technology, CUNY, seeks a tenure-track library faculty member at the assistant professor level to serve as Instruction and Reference Librarian. The successful candidate will work with library faculty colleagues to develop and offer information literacy and library instruction, including collaborative efforts with faculty in all disciplines. They will also offer reference service, be responsible for designated areas of collection development, and provide coordination and communication for functional and subject areas. The Instruction and Reference Librarian must maintain a record of excellence in librarianship, scholarly achievement, and service. The Ursula C. The Instruction and Reference Librarian will:

- Offer classroom or other group instruction to students and faculty in information literacy. Instruction ranges from general introductions to library services and library/internet resources to discipline-specific presentations for programs, courses, or assignments. Instruction may be offered in-person or online, and may include collaboration with other faculty on subject guides and course-specific research resources.

- Provide comprehensive, one-to-one reference consultation and instruction to members of the college community. To this end, they will develop and maintain broad knowledge of resources, regardless of format, in general reference areas as well as City Tech subject/career fields.
- Working as subject specialist in assigned areas, evaluate, select, and deselect library materials. Responsibilities include appropriate and timely expenditures under assigned budgets, website content creation and updates in areas of specialization, and communication and consultation with subject faculty regarding resources and services, including information literacy and instruction.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Supports a college library through providing in-depth consultation with students and faculty and collaboration for the ongoing improvement of instructional programs and practices. Pursues an active scholarly agenda, performs supervisory duties, and participates in college-and university-wide programs and committees as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Master's in Library Science (MLS), Master's in Library Information Studies (MLIS), or closely related discipline from an ALA-accredited institution, with a second graduate degree required.  Also required is the ability to work with others for the good of the institution.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Background, experience, or degree in STEM fields, especially natural sciences or health sciences
- Experience in library marketing, outreach, or public relations
- Experience with creating and using educational technologies, especially at the college or university level, and familiarity with best practices in instructional design
- Familiarity with current trends in scholarly communication, including open access publishing and open educational resources
- Familiarity with assessment practices in libraries and higher education
- Management and supervisory skills and experience
