Gill Library Learning Commons Librarian (Six Positions), College of New Rochelle – NY

The College of New Rochelle seeks six (6) enthusiastic and creative librarians to join Gill Library as a Learning Commons Librarian at each of our campuses located in New Rochelle, Coop City, Harlem, Bronx, Manhattan and Brooklyn. Position is available beginning April 1st, 2015.

Reporting to the Assistant Dean of the Library, the Learning Commons Librarian will work with library colleagues and campus-wide partners to implement and maintain strategic and operative plans for the Gill Library Learning Commons. With a welcoming virtual and physical presence, the Library Learning Commons will provide a space for students to gain and practice skills vital to academic success.  The Learning Commons Librarian should be interested in exploring innovative ways of providing research, information, and digital literacy instruction across campus and be eager to collaborate with other librarians, faculty, students and staff

Responsibilities
  • Participate in the design and implementation of programs, initiatives, and outreach activities at the Library Learning Commons, College, and beyond;
  • Participate in the development and implementation of the strategic and operative plans for the Library Learning Commons;
  • Establish and promote teaching and learning support programs in collaboration with colleagues in the library and across campus;
  • Pursue opportunities for library involvement in campus-wide learning support programs and participate in the coordination of the integration of these programs into the Learning Commons;
  • Collaborate with existing staff to conduct marketing and outreach programs for the Library Learning Commons;
  • Teach in-person and virtual information literacy sessions, 2-credit Research and Information Literacy course, and support modules utilizing student-centered and outcomes-based pedagogy;
  • Participate in embedded librarianship project related to MURAL initiative;
  • Partner with librarians, faculty, and Learning Commons staff to create innovative and meaningful learning opportunities for students, including those related to digital projects;
  • Provide research guidance to students and faculty both individually and in groups;
Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Library/Information Science from a program accredited by the American Library Association;
  • Demonstrated interest in information literacy and a commitment to innovative and collaborative teaching;
  • Experience providing information literacy instruction in an academic library;
  • Commitment to undergraduate research;
  • Ability to work with multiple constituencies in a collaborative environment, manage time and multiple projects simultaneously, set and accomplish goals, meet deadlines;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collegially with students, faculty, and staff;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, especially for marketing and outreach;
  • Knowledge of information literacy theory, practice and assessment techniques;
  • Knowledge of learner support services in higher education, such as tutoring and writing services, etc.

  • Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse groups and varied learning styles;
  • Demonstrated experience using emerging technologies in instructional settings;
  • Commitment to liberal arts education.
