Gill Library Learning Commons Coordinator - NY

Gill Library at The College of New Rochelle invites applications for a Learning Commons Coordinator, and this full-time, 12-month professional staff level position is available immediately.  Reporting to the Assistant Dean of the Library, the Learning Commons Coordinator will take a lead role in the integration of library and academic support services within the Library Learning Commons.  The Coordinator provides vision, leadership, and management in the integration of technology, research skills, tutoring, and related student success functions.  This includes the delivery of services and re-purposed physical spaces designed to facilitate information discovery, collaborative learning, and knowledge-building for all students.  This exciting new venture will blend digital and multimedia technologies with the best of online and traditional library services to foster student learning and research.  The Library Learning Commons has been developed in phases, with the major phase on the main campus in New Rochelle, due to open in the Fall of 2015.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Liaises with Asst. VP for Academic Affairs and retention services staff, including tutoring, writing and disability services;
  • Contributes to curriculum development/student success and retention initiatives, including writing across the disciplines;
  • Creates a dynamic and innovative Learning Commons environment based upon current research and best practices;
  • Directs and supervises all aspects of staffing, including scheduling, training, and evaluating Learning Commons staff;
  • Oversees all technology in the Learning Commons to ensure that it functions properly;
  • Prepares reports, communicates and collaborates with campus academic units to develop programs and services that lead to student academic success;
  • Teaches information literacy credit-bearing course in the embedded librarianship program as needed, by collaborating with faculty to integrate digital and information literacy into the curriculum and to prepare active learning-based instructional modules to meet student learning needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program (or equivalent) and 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience (higher education setting preferred) in a public-services focused library environment;
  • Knowledge and understanding of technology and its application to libraries and other learning environments;
  • Strong commitment to outreach and student engagement;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong collaborative leadership and project management skills and experience;
  • Commitment to building diversity;
  • Flexibility and the capacity to embrace and to work in a continuously changing environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in a learning/information commons or academic support center;
  • Familiarity with the assessment of public services;
  • Experience with space planning and development;
  • Interest in educational fund-raising and grants development;
  • Participation in related professional service and/or research.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Knowledge of best practices in student success strategies and learning-related support services;
  • Demonstrated excellence in academic research and writing pedagogy
  • Proven successful supervisory, management, and leadership experience with demonstrated commitment to mentoring, training, and staff development;
  • Ability to view issues from varying perspectives, foster teamwork and stimulate cross-functional collaboration.
