Pro Libra Associates is seeking an Executive Director for its client, Morris Automated Information Network, of Morris Township, NJ.
The Executive Director is responsible for all
administrative aspects of services, staff and operations of the Morris
Automated Information Network (M.A.I.N., Inc.).
The Executive Director reports to
the MAIN Board of Directors.
Essential Duties
and Responsibilities
Staff Administration
- Recruits, trains, supervises and administers personnel policies for all MAIN employees
- Makes recommendations to the MAIN Executive Board for the establishment of positions, compensation, and policies
- Develops programs to enhance staff understanding of member needs, as well as member libraries’ understanding of MAIN’s capabilities and limitations
- Develops teams for ongoing and special MAIN projectsFinances
- Oversees all fiduciary responsibilities of MAIN
- Prepares annual budget for approval by MAIN Board of Directors
- Ensures that strategic partnerships and membership development enhance the long-term financial health of MAINServices and Operations
- Oversees effective member relations, including communication, customer service, and training
- Supervises the maintenance, quality and effectiveness of the MAIN catalog via close liaison with MAIN committees relevant to:
- appropriate selection and retention of materials
- ILS policies, procedures, and best practices
- Maintains awareness of innovations in library services and technology, promoting them to membership as appropriate
- Represents MAIN to other organizations and government entities at the local, regional, state, and national levels
- Acts as an advocate for public library service, locally as well as in state, regional, and national arenas
- Maintains the balance between developments in information technology, effective business practices, and the expectations of MAIN patrons and members in terms of service, training, and maintenance of strong public libraries
- Guides the strategic planning process and implementation
- Supervises the maintenance, quality and effectiveness of the integrated library system and other relevant software
- Negotiates contracts with vendors, monitoring compliance and service agreements
- Acts as an advisor and consultant to member librariesQualifications
- ALA-accredited Master’s degree (MLS/MLIS) or other relevant Master’s degree (e.g. MPA, MBA)
- Five or more years of experience working as a professional librarian, at least two in a managerial position in a public library or library consortium; or other comparable management experience in the public, non-profit or private sector
- Can demonstrate a thorough understanding of the library environment, language and culture, as well as an awareness of public library needs and practices in New Jersey
- Capacity to bring together a large group of library directors and trustees to work together for the interests of the consortium
- Vision and creativity in developing responsive and innovative services, applying new trends in technology that will benefit member libraries
- Familiarity with ILS automated systems
- Proven record of acuity in financial planning
