About the Marketing Knowledge Center (MKC):


With over 4,000 proprietary insights, the MKC serves the ANA and its members as a major source of marketing and industry knowledge. The MKC team’s focus is threefold:

 

1)    Customized Research (the “MKC Ask the Expert Research Service”): To provide ANA members with the marketing information and insights they need to make better decisions, faster.


2)    Knowledge Management: To capture all relevant content presented at ANA events and to create new pieces of timely, unique content, all of which are available only to ANA members.


3)    Survey Program: To take the “pulse” of ANA Members on a variety of hot topics and trends that are pertinent to them and provide actionable findings that will inform and enhance their marketing knowledge

 

Job Summary:


The Researcher will provide ANA members (marketing professionals) with comprehensive, specialized research on advertising/marketing topics of varying complexity.

This position will allow a qualified candidate to be a part of a unique, personalized marketing research service that consistently earns top ratings from members for helping them to become more knowledgeable marketers.

The Researcher will answer member information requests by researching ANA-proprietary and industry resources, supplementing these sources at times with ANA members or industry expert perspective. The deliverable will be customized to the member’s preference (a short report of 1-3 readings, a synthesis of findings that includes top-line summaries with links to additional readings, or a Powerpoint slide deck report). The Researcher position also entails tracking a number of information request metrics, in order to identify trends in member usage and gaps in information resources (for example, researchers may observe an increase in requests for a particular marketing topic for which little information is published).


Researchers will also work with the Member Relations team to drive awareness and usage of the research service.


Job Responsibilities:


Information Requests / Research (90%)

    • At the beginning of each request, speak with ANA members about their information needs and marketing challenges, and set expectations for the scope and timing of their research deliverable
    • Offer members real-time request assistance via “LiveChat” interaction
    • Perform secondary research using ANA-proprietary resources and industry resources (an annual total of approximately 400 requests)
    • Leverage marketing knowledge of ANA members and ANA-affiliated industry experts to supplement secondary research findings
    • Track research service requests performed, to identify trends in member information needs and marketing subject gap areas
    • Provide other Research Service users (ANA staff, non-members) with research assistance, as needed


Project Management (10%)

·       Assist Director with management of information request database continuous improvements (collect researchers’ database feature requests, prioritize issues and address with IT, monitor status of database usability, intuitiveness and functionality


Additional opportunities include creation of content for promotional emails (“Ask the Expert” sample research questions and answers featured in newsletters), collaboration with the research team on content for annual strategic planning, and satisfaction survey follow-up interviews with ANA members.

 

Qualifications: 

The successful candidate will be highly motivated and have a strong record of performance and leadership. Experience requiring analytical or innovative problem-solving work is preferred, and an aptitude for strategic thinking is important. In addition, we place a high value on relevant personal qualities: resourcefulness, independence, energy, self-confidence, and a commitment to excellent customer service and quality. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of work experience in a role requiring information-gathering and analysis and interpretation. Job experience in the field of marketing/advertising is a plus. A master’s degree in library and information science (MLIS) is preferred, but not required. Experience with managing projects, or experience interfacing with technical staff to evolve technical tools (databases, websites), are strongly desired, but not required.
