Full-Time Adult Services Librarian
Sachem Public Library seeks an enthusiastic, friendly, creative Librarian I with strong reference and reader’s advisory skills to join the Library’s Adult Reference Staff. The successful candidate should enjoy working with people, have a passion for adult literature, and possess a strong technical background.
Responsibilities will include:
Providing in-person, online and phone reference and reader’s advisory assistance in a fast-paced environment.
Assisting visitors in the use of library resources and technology including the use of hand held and mobile devices.
Planning and presenting instructional programs.
Marketing and merchandising adult collections and services.
Participating in material selection and collection maintenance.
Assisting in community outreach.

Minimum Qualifications:
ALA accredited MLS.
NYS Public Librarian Professional Certificate.
Reachable on the NYS Civil Service Librarian I list or eligible for transfer.
Proactive customer service skills.
Thorough knowledge of traditional as well as online reference databases and downloadable resources.
Highly articulate with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Comfortable training in both individual and group settings.

Hours will include one evening per week and Saturdays in rotation. Sundays are optional.
