Position Summary
The Social Media Strategist is a talented and versatile
professional who must contribute daily written content and/or features
and social media policies for the University's main website, social
media sites and for other priority projects while undertaking other core
office responsibilities including but not limited to handling some
film/media crews. The strategist primarily focuses on written content,
from a journalistic perspective, and must be able to convey intended
messages accurately and succinctly both through editorial and visual
mechanisms. The strategist builds University social media policy
recommendations and must keep supervisors, senior officials and
University trustees abreast of the University's social media strategy
and implementation, including trends, through detailed written reports.
The strategist is a key member of Communications' news & editorial
team and must support the team as assigned, while also producing at
least one substantial social media feature per week. The strategist
manages the office's campus social media group, through which he or she
advises campus partners on best practices. The strategist can only take
on more individualized advising when all other duties are performed to a
satisfactory level and with supervisor approval. The strategist helps
Princeton remain a leader in social media use in higher education.
The strategist must be an organized communicator who can set priorities, multitask, problem solve, project track, meet deadlines, collaborate and contribute to overall team objectives. He or she must demonstrate: integrity; the capacity to appropriately balance and prioritize work needs; respect for others; a collaborative spirit; the desire for intellectual growth; and, creativity. The strategist must demonstrate the ability to adapt to and present well the Princeton University "voice." This position reports to the Director of News & Editorial Services.
The strategist, under direction of the Director of News & Editorial Services and, when appropriate, the AVP for Communications, will assume duties including but not limited to: I. Online content & social media: 1) creates, gains approval for and posts content for University main website, social media sites and other priority projects. Works closely with supervisor to develop plan for ensuring timely, accurate and proper balance of daily editorial, visual and technology content. Also updates existing content. Prioritizes and helps set deadlines for regular content updates, ensuring main site incorporates social media elements. Ensures accuracy and quality of content, including proofing websites and checking Web links and other functionality. Ensures content reflects office and University goals and priorities, conducting appropriate research when needed. 2) Helps office respond to crises by posting approved information in social media platforms. 3)Provides social media reports & analysis based on sound research and, when needed, recommends new strategy, content and websites. Implements approved recommendations. 4) Drafts, recommends and updates social media policies, standards and guidelines, including distribution to campus partners. 5) Reviews and processes requests related to website changes, particularly social media sites. 6) Runs Communications' social media "spinoff," which helps campus partners. 7) Produces at least one substantive social media feature per week, in addition to daily posts. 8) Assigns and works with social media specialist to achieve social media goals and daily production. 9) Works collaboratively with others in office, particularly those working in social media.

Essential Qualifications
-Bachelor's degree
-Must be an expert in social media and be able to multitask, meet deadlines, problem solve, provide strategic analysis, interact well with people and write on demand.
-A minimum of 4 years experience in a high-pressure, professional communications environment in a capacity that assists and supports senior team members.
-A minimum of 4 years of professional editing and writing experience, and a minimum of 3 years social media experience in a coordination role
-Familiarity with Web technology, and ability to work in both Mac and PC environments
-Demonstrated ability to work well, both independently and on teams
-Excellent organizational skills, must be able to work with creative teams and must be able to work well with diverse colleagues and audiences
-Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and to support team priorities
-Finalist will be required to successfully pass a background check
