Job Title: Scholarly Communications Librarian

Position Summary: The Scholarly Communications Librarian will manage the Princeton University Library's efforts to support scholarly publication innovations and reforms, and will supervise and coordinate activities related to the Princeton Open Access policy and the Princeton Institutional Repository. The librarian will serve on University committees and represent Princeton on national groups and committees. The librarian will report to the Director of Scholarly Communications, and will be based in the Lewis Science Library.
Major Responsibilities: Coordinate the implementation of the Princeton Open Access policy in close collaboration with the Princeton Digital Repository Architect.
Provide campus-wide advocacy for Open Access to scholarly works and convey the University's vision of Open Access in various campus and national forums and publications.
Advise faculty and serve as a library resource on copyright compliance issues related to Open Access.
Conduct outreach to faculty and departments in collaboration with subject liaison librarians.
Serve as a campus advocate for Open Access to scholarly works and will speak and write about the issues in various campus and national forums and publications.
Coordinate scholarly communication advisory committee.
Consult with and advise faculty on publishing agreements, and retention of right to deposit materials in the institutional repository.
Develop and implement an educational program to increase awareness in copyright, Open Access, and other scholarly communication issues.
Work in close consultation and cooperation with OIT, Library Systems, Princeton University Archives, Office of the General Counsel, and Office for the Dean of Research.
Work closely with collection development and technical services to ensure that, as appropriate, licenses support Princeton's Open Access Policy and its Institutional Repository.
Monitor national copyright and intellectual property trends and policy issues.
With OIT, develop and maintain the Princeton Institutional Repository website.
Supervise student workers and/or support staff.
Be active professionally and contribute to the developments in the field, especially in groups such as SPARC and COAPI.
Essential Qualifications An ALA-accredited Master's degree in library or information sciences, or another post-baccalaureate degree that has prepared the candidate to be an authority in the area of scholarly communication.
Demonstrated knowledge of copyright and other intellectual property issues in the academic environment.
Aptitude for thinking creatively and developing products and services, such as publications, training materials, workshops, conferences, and other tools relevant to scholarly communications, copyright, and fair use.
Evidence of leadership, entrepreneurship, and initiative.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to adjust priorities, take initiative, set goals, manage time wisely, and make quick effective decisions in a fast-paced environment.
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish positive and productive collaborations with faculty.
Preferred Qualifications 3 years relevant experience, preferably in an academic library environment.
Experience in preparing and delivering copyright instruction.
Demonstrated proficiency with digital systems and software applications.
Demonstrated contribution to the profession with scholarly publications and/or presentations and through contributions to professional organizations.
