Asst. Dir for Information and Research Svcs, William Paterson Univ – NJ
William Paterson University invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Director for Information and Research Services.
Reporting to the Dean of Library Services, the Assistant Director provides leadership, vision and management of the Cheng Library’s instruction program and the Reference, Lending Services and Curriculum Materials departments. As a senior member of the library management team, the incumbent plays a critical role in strategic planning, assessment and collaboration with faculty and staff throughout the campus community. Working in a team environment, the incumbent coordinates the work of nine librarians and five support staff and is actively engaged in teaching, providing reference service, and participating as a collection development liaison to one or more academic departments.
The successful candidate is required to have earned an ALA-accredited master’s degree and a second master’s (or doctoral) degree in a field relevant to the University curriculum. Also required are a minimum of eight years of progressively responsible experience in an academic library setting, including supervisory and administrative experience; demonstrated excellence in teaching and in providing reference service; and demonstrated broad experience in library assessment practices, with particular expertise in assessing student learning outcomes. S/he will be a dynamic, user-oriented professional with demonstrated strong communication, analytical, interpersonal and leadership skills. S/he will demonstrate knowledge about best practices and current trends in academic library public services, and in using and integrating technology for the delivery of scholarly content and services.
Preference will be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting all required qualifications, have had front-line experience working in at least one other core area besides reference service, such as circulation, library instruction, curriculum materials or delivery of support for online education.
This is a tenure-track, twelve-month position at the concurrent academic rank of Professor in the Library. Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
