Library Operations Specialist, Novo Nordisk – NJ
Novo Nordisk is seeking The Library Operations Specialist, who will be responsible for completing tasks and managing workflows in the Library Operations group, including budget management, focused collection development, needs assessments, document delivery, literature database management, cataloging, circulation, and copyright compliance. Position is located in Princeton, NJRELATIONSHIPS:
This position reports to the Director, Library within the Scientific Analytics & Communications group of the Clinical Development, Medical and Regulatory Affairs (CMR) department. The Library Operations Specialist interacts with individuals and groups from all departments to provide high-quality resources and services that are aligned with the goals and information needs of the organization. The Library Operations Specialist works closely and collaboratively with colleagues at Novo Nordisk’s Library in Denmark and at other global affiliates to align strategies, resources, costs, and workflows.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Assists in the selection and implementation of new systems and technologies.
* Circulates materials to customers using Library systems. Follows all Library procedures for check-out,
follow-up, and check-in.
* Collects and reports Library Operations statistics to the Director, Library.
* Completes special projects as assigned.
* Fulfills local and global document delivery requests using in-house and external sources and providers.
* Ensures that requests are fulfilled according to guidelines for cost and timeliness.
* Is an integral member of the Library Operations team and participates on cross-functional teams to
complete projects critical to the group’s mission.
* Links full-text sources from literature databases to Library analytical reports.
* Maintains an updated catalog of Library holdings, including regular addition of new items. Performs an
annual inventory of materials in selected areas.
* Manages loading of literature and references into Library databases and repositories.
* Manages the Library budget; provides monthly update of expenditures and cost projections to the
Director, Library.
* May supervise contingent staff.
* Negotiates subscriptions and licenses with publishers; aligns subscription activities with global partners.
* Provides assistance and instruction in the use of print and electronic resources.
* Responsible for collection development, including the selection and purchase of new materials and the
weeding of items that no longer fit the collection’s scope. Assesses company information needs and
focuses collection development appropriately.
* Reviews procedures and priorities on a regular basis and makes recommendations to management to
ensure optimal customer satisfaction and staff efficiency.
* Serves as the Library’s primary contact for copyright compliance, including management of internal and
external copyright procedures and guidelines.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Approximately 5% overnight travel
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS: EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
* A Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of five years relevant experience required; additional experience
can be substituted for degree if appropriate.
* Advanced degree in Library Science (MLS/MLIS) preferred, plus a minimum of two years of directly
related experience.
* Demonstrated proficiency in management of budgets.
* Excellent organizational, communication, and presentation skills.
* Knowledge of SIRSIDynex and Primo systems preferred.
* Proficient in the use and understanding of other computer software, including word processing and
document management
