One of the most important education initiatives of the New York Public Library is the MyLibraryNYC project, launched in September 2011. Through its partnership with the New York City Public Schools, the NYPL, along with the Brooklyn Public Library and Queens Library, acts as an extension of school libraries by providing to students and teachers fine-free library cards with special borrowing privileges and on-site book delivery. Each school uses an internet interface that allows teachers to search and order resources from their own library catalog as well as the combined catalogs of the three public libraries’ 17 million collections. Both teachers and students also have access to electronic resources such as research databases and ebooks.
