F/T - Emerging Technologies Librarian, FIT (NY)

Emerging Technologies Librarian, Fashion Institute of Technology – NY


The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), invites nominations and applications for a full-time tenure-track non classroom faculty position in the Library at FIT.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Technological / Instructional Design
Designs and promotes digital learning resources that support FIT’s and Library teaching, learning and research goals
  • Keeps current with trends in educational technology/design, emerging technologies, library databases, information literacy pedagogy and learning theory
  • Identifies best practices for technologies
  • Identifies and proposes, and implements relevant technology initiatives for local use, including recommendations for adoption, often in collaboration with Library personnel teams
  • Develops and maintains an evolving, robust, flexible technological infrastructure
  • Develops and designs digital learning objects and online instructional resources to support the information literacy goals and objectives of FIT
  • Develops and leads training sessions and webinars for Library personnel
  • Develops faculty education and outreach programs and webinars
  • Engages with online, blended and distance education initiatives at FIT
  • Maintains and develops the Library’s presence in FIT’s course management system
  • Works closely with Digital Initiatives Librarian
  • Designs and curates multimedia, web-based research guides
Technological / Instructional Outreach
  • Develops and promotes library marketing programs for digital services and resources
  • Seeks creative partnerships to develop and reinforce students’ information and digital literacy; works with faculty to create and implement online learning modules to support both literacies
  • Works closely with FIT’s Online Learning and Academic Technologies, Center for Excellence in Teaching, Writing Studio and other departments of the College to promote student and faculty awareness of Library resources and services
  • Helps to assess and evaluate information literacy initiatives
  • Participates in the development, coordination and assessment of the Library’s social media presence
  • Works with dynamic and static image delivery systems as relevant to promoting their use in institution-wide venues
  • Participates in SUNY-wide collaborations and initiatives; explores partnerships with other academic institutions
Requirements:

● MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution
● Minimum of five (5) years relevant professional experience
● Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a diverse environment with varying skill sets and technological competencies and facilitate group communications
● Thorough understanding of current and emerging technology trends, including information technology that is specific to academic library services
● Experience in image file formats and digitization methods
● Experience in project management and creative problem resolution
● Excellent presentation and communication skills, including teaching skills
● Experience in open-source technologies, web design and instructional design; ability to write effectively for the web
● Experience with a wide array of technologies and programming languages to design, manage and deliver digital content
● Ability to adapt in fast-changing environments
● Demonstration of strong organizational skills and proven success in planning, introducing and managing change and innovative initiatives
● Demonstrated strong commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in higher education
● Evidence of professional scholarly interests and potential to meet promotion and tenure standards in librarianship, research, service and outreach P

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

● Experience in an academic library
● Experience using Learning Management Systems, e.g., Angel or Blackboard, etc.
● Experience with UNIX
● Knowledge of copyright law as it applies to digital media
● Advanced degree or equivalent experience in instructional technology, digital image and metadata management, and/or interactive multimedia
