Assistant Librarian, Office of Legislative Services
Title: Assistant Librarian, OLS
Location: Office of Legislative Services, Office of Public Information, State House Annex, West State Street, Trenton, NJ
Salary Range: $42,000.00 – $53,433.03 per year
Description: Under general supervision, performs various tasks related to the provision of services to library patrons; performs general and legal research for legislative staff; answers reference questions; maintains a database and tracks and records required reports to the Legislature; maintains an archives database of historical items related to the New Jersey Legislature; and assists with the production and indexing of the newspaper clipping packet.
Requirements Education: Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited university
Experience: Library experience is preferred. Previous experience in searching on-line databases (such as LexisNexis) and using Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) and/or Dreamweaver is preferred.
Residency Law: Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (P.L. 2011, Chapter 70), also known as the “New Jersey First Act,” which became effective September 1, 2011, all persons newly hired by the Office of Legislative Services on or after that date, unless exempted by the law, shall have one year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. New Jersey state employees hired prior to September 1, 2011 who transfer from within the Office of Legislative Services or from another State of New Jersey appointing authority without a break in service greater than seven days but who reside outside the State of New Jersey are not required to change their principal residence to New Jersey in order to comply with the act.
