The Strategy and Business Management Group reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer of Morgan Stanley Wealth Management and has a core mandate of driving revenue growth and profitability through key strategic priorities. The group includes teams responsible for Business Intelligence & Metrics, Account Maintenance & Service Fees, Real Estate & Expense Management, and Strategic Initiatives. The Strategic Initiatives team provides leadership and end-to-end process management of cross-Executive Committee critical priorities with responsibility for identification of focus areas, approach, and driving execution (e.g., Firm’s non-compensable expense review, rebranding, Moody’s downgrade preparation). Traditional strategy functions are also covered by this portion of the team, including competitor intelligence, preparation of MS Board and Investor Relations materials, and ongoing business reviews.
As an associate focused on strategy and competitor metrics, you will be expected to assume full ownership of major projects, driving the development of meaningful solutions to critical business issues and effectively communicating them to key stakeholders. We work closely with senior management across Firm functions to analyze information, develop recommendations, and drive change.
Strong problem solving and analytical skills are imperative as the role entails structuring quantitative and qualitative analyses, assessing operational and financial information, and partnering with professionals across the organization to gain expert insights. Core focus areas will include quarterly earnings reporting of MSWM vs. other wirehouses for senior management, other contextual wealth management industry research, FA segmentation and growth analyses, and broader strategic initiatives across the organization, including comprehensive business reviews.
The role will require a team leader with strong communication skills who is capable of organizing and prioritizing projects. The candidate needs to be a self starter capable of solving problems and managing projects from start to finish. The position also requires a detail-oriented and research-minded individual.
BA / BS with strong academic record
Minimum of 2 years of post-graduate experience, preferably at a top-tier investment bank, management consulting firm, or on a Fortune 500 corporate strategy team
Excellent problem-solving ability and business judgment
Strong analytical and modeling skills with knowledge of Excel
Superior verbal and written communication skills with proficiency in PowerPoint
Basic accounting and financial statements analysis
Ability to multi-task and manage competing deadlines
