Engineering Librarian, Princeton University – NJ

Princeton University Library seeks an energetic and forward-thinking library professional to lead the Engineering Library. The Engineering Librarian serves as the head of the
Engineering Library, bearing primary responsibility for all aspects of the administration of the library and supervision of a team of five library assistants.
In close liaison with the broad Engineering constituencies at the University, the Librarian develops and manages 
strong, interdisciplinary digital and print collections, and shapes and directly provides innovative services for all levels of library patrons, including reference, research consultation, individual and group instructional programs, and online guides and in-class presentations for courses and projects, in support of teaching and research in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
Excellent communication skills are a high priority. The Librarian works closely with faculty and students of the School’s 6 departments ( and 7 interdisciplinary centers (, in support of their four over-arching priorities of energy and environment, health, security, and preparing leaders (including strategic agendas of internationalization of scope, and entrepreneurship education in engineering). This librarian functions as the key resource person for the entire Princeton University Library system in assisting all patrons with the discovery and use of content in this wide and growing field.
The Librarian also represents Princeton in the relevant regional, national, and international professional and scholarly organizations and meetings; seeks opportunities to participate in inter-institutional initiatives for collaboration in collection development, digitization, preservation and access, and other projects; and identifies opportunities for grants to further enhance the Library’s service to this field.
Because of the broad interdisciplinary and international scope of the field at Princeton, the Engineering Librarian also works in very close coordination with librarians in science, architecture, social sciences and area studies, and reports directly to the Associate University Librarian for Collection Development as a member of the Collection Development Department.
ALA-accredited Master’s degree in library science or equivalent combination of education and professional librarian experience
Undergraduate degree in engineering or a related area or relevant academic or special library experience
Minimum of two years of professional library work in engineering or the physical sciences
Broad familiarity with engineering and computer science literature including major print and electronic sources and databases
Demonstrated successful leadership and strategic planning abilityStrongly Preferred:
Experience in managing a branch library or library departmental operation
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Experience supervising library support staff
Experience with developing print and digital collections and managing an acquisitions budget
Demonstrated success reaching out to and working collaboratively with all levels of users and staff, across all functions of the library system
Ability to work effectively in a rapidly changing environment
