Librarian, Roseland Free Public Library – NJ

The Roseland Free Public Library, in Roseland, NJ, is seeking a highly motivated professional librarian to perform library services for the general public.

The Librarian will be required to have substantial professional knowledge and experience with librarianship theories, principles, and practices including technical skills, supervisory and/or management. Interest in young adult services a plus.

Responsibilities:
This job has several essential functions. The ideal candidate can readily provide readers’ advisory services for both young adults and adults. Librarian duties include assisting in the selection and evaluation of electronic and print resources, and deliver them in a form appropriate to the situation. An ideal candidate should be able to organize materials and resources using access systems that are compatible with different patrons’ needs and learning styles.

The position requires giving talks before groups, organizations, patrons, and co-workers, as well as preparing clear, accurate, and informative reports, both narrative and statistical.

The Librarian should be knowledgeable about current events, as well as popular and local culture. In addition to other duties assigned by the Director or Administrative Assistant, they should also be able to provide information on library activities, facilities, and services. They will regularly develop and weed assigned subject areas of our adult collection. They can fully comprehend, analyze, and interpret the library rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

In this position, the Librarian will continue to develop his or her skills and keep current with scientific and technical developments by attending seminars and meetings of professional library groups and organizations. The Librarian will also work with professional associations to improve how the library’s methods of providing services.

Skills, Qualifications & Salary:
A suitable candidate will possess strong knowledge of the theories, objectives, principles, and techniques of librarianship. They would exhibit the ability to supervise other employees, as well as work harmoniously with patrons and co-workers. The Librarian will present welcoming behaviors and practice effective interviewing skills to best determine patrons’ actual needs. They would effectively find and implement alternative funding sources.

The qualifications for the position of Librarian at Roseland Free Public Library includes a Master’s degree in Library Science, a Professional Librarian’s Certificate accredited by the American Library Association and issued by Thomas Edison State College, continuing education in areas of librarianship and related technology, active participation in professional library associations and community organizations, as well as current knowledge of library trends and innovations. Must have experience in drafting policies and procedures.  We are looking for 1-3 years of experience.  Salary follows NJLA Guidelines
