FT - Library Assistant - Sanford-Brown Institute (NJ)

Iselin NJ based Sanford-Brown Institute is seeking a Library Assistant. The incumbent will perform various duties related to the operation of the library including maintaining the circulation desk, processing library materials, helping students and faculty locate library resources, and various duties as assigned.

Job Descriptions:

  • Responsible for maintaining the circulation desk and associated records
  • Assist students and instructors in the location of print and non-print resouces.
  • Collection of library fines and photocopier charges
  • Compile and record circulation statistics and reports on a daily basis
  • Input bibliographic records of new library materials into the on-line catalog
  • Assist with inventory
  • Labeling and processing of new books and media materials
  • Post and maintain printed inventories of special collections
  • Maintain good physical condition of the library and its materials (includes cleaning of books for dust and occasional mold)
  • Assist in the training and scheduling of student workers
  • Assign duties for student workers
  • May conduct library orientation sessions
  • Proctor student exams
  • Maintain the periodical collection
  • Supervise library in absence of librarian
Required Skills
  • Knowledge of standard library methods, organization, operations and terminology
  • Work with the following software: Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Publisher
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent computer skills, including experience with a library information system and periodical databases
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with presentation skills
  • Must be able to multi-task and work under deadlines
Required Experience
