Reporting to the Deputy State Librarian for Lifelong Learning, the person in this position will function as the project specialist for the State Library's services to the urban library community, on diversity issues and to "Boomer" and active older adult populations.
Education and Experience: Commensurate with the level of expertise a project demands.
-Serves as State Library liaison with the New Jersey Library Association's Urban Libraries and Special Population sections. -Participates in writing and administering grant programs to fund programs of importance to these communities. - Provides continuing education programs of statewide impact for librarians serving these communities / constituencies. - Provides consulting assistance to urban libraries and diverse communities. - Investigates and recommends strategies to address library services to the poor, to correctional facilities, jails and prisons, military bases and other special libraries, to immigrants and priority populations identified inNJ's LSTA plan. -Becomes familiar with methods to identify underserved members of the New Jersey community
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience and knowledge of issues facing urban libraries, active older adults and/or special populations - Excellent oral and written communication skills. - Ability to develop and conduct training sessions - Valid NJ driver's license for statewide travel - Fluency in a second language other than English (preferred)
