Part-Time Reference Librarian
The College of Staten Island, a senior college of the City University of New York, seeks an energetic, highly motivated
part-time Reference Librarian for evening and weekend hours for up to 15 hours per week. The successful candidate
must have a strong public service orientation and an ability to respond to the reference needs of both students and
faculty. Duties include:
· providing comprehensive reference, research, and referral service in a team-based,
client-centered environment;
· teaching and assisting users in identifying, locating, and interpreting sources of information,
irrespective of format;
· teaching library research skills to individuals during library
research consultations (private sessions) and as part of reference
service; and
· assisting with library projects, assignments, and initiatives as
designated.
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program. Demonstrated experience in a library reference setting. Ability to
communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing. Extensive knowledge of various types of print,
non-print and media resources. Ability to effectively train students/faculty on the use of specialized equipment and/or t
echnology. Ability to keep abreast of trends and emerging media technology. Must be able to work well within a culturally
diverse environment with the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.
The College of Staten Island (CSI) is centrally located on a
204-acre, park-like campus, the largest in New York City. CSI is one of 11 senior colleges of The City
University of New York (CUNY) and the only public college on Staten Island. The
College offers over 80 undergraduate programs, 24 graduate programs and
participates in a wide range of doctoral programs through the CUNY Graduate
School and University Center. CSI enrolls approximately 14,000 students and
employs more than 2,000 faculty and staff.

and faculty access to a wealth of information and resources that support the
college’s curriculum. The Library is located at the center of the south

Salary, depending on qualifications, begins at $37.77 per hour.
