Baker & Taylor is seeking a Cataloging Librarian to be responsible for the online creation of original and adaptive Library of Congress and B&T Enhanced MARC cataloging records for books and media.Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Create original and adaptive LC cataloging records online for books, e-book, video, and audio products, using Unabridged Dewey and Library of Congress classification and Library of Congress subject headings according to AACR2 rules and in MARC format.
Create Enhanced MARC cataloging records online using Abridged Dewey classification, Sears subject headings, and MARC format
Format and utilized publisher and/or LC supplied information to generate pre-publication cataloging records according to national standards and B&T conventions to support review source and special list cataloging activities, as needed
Examine item-in-hand or pre-publication material and write brief objective descriptive summaries (annotations)
Update pre-publication records with item-in-hand as needed; correct errors
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS) from an ALA accredited school
1-2 years practical cataloging experience in a library or business environment, or recent MLS graduate with cataloging coursework
Basic PC skills; knowledge on online and automated library systems
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals and effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and the general public
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists and interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, o schedule form
