GENERAL DUTIES:
Performs teaching, research, and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise as noted below. Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments, performing administrative, supervisory, and other functions as may be assigned.
CONTRACT TITLE: Assistant Professor
FLSA: Exempt
CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION: The position reports directly to the Chief Librarian, Bronx Community College Library and Gerald S. Lieblich Learning Resources Center. The Electronic Resources and Technical Services Librarian will assess, select, acquire, and manage collections in all formats, and produce statistical and trend analyses of resource use and library service trends.
Primary duties include outreach to faculty to support active faculty involvement in developing the collection, analysis of print and electronic resources to maximize investment supporting student academic success, supervision of acquisitions staff, coordination of operations with librarians and staff to maintain links to full text resources, and representing the college at CUNY wide meetings such as the Electronic Resources Advisory Committee. Secondary duties include deselecting outdated and obsolete materials, contributing to the improvement and efficient operations of the Library and Learning Resources Center, and providing general professional librarian services, including rotating shifts providing Reference Services.
Professional service contributions to the department, division, and college are expected, including service on committees and the BCC Council of Librarians. Continuous updating of knowledge and skills in applying new technological applications to delivering collections supporting the mission and goals of the Library and Learning Resources Center is required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D. degree in area(s) of expertise, or equivalent as noted below. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, interest in productive scholarship or creative achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Appropriate doctorate or an additional Master's degree. M.L.S. from an ALA Accredited University and four years' of appropriate library experience in increasingly responsible positions; advanced computer skills; knowledge of scholarly literature and publishing trends; high level of familiarity with literature, sources, authors and publishers; excellent communication, presentation and analytical skills; strong service orientation; ability to work collegially with users, faculty and staff; evidence of significant scholarship/professional achievement. Experience with Collection Management and Acquisitions preferred.
COMPENSATION: $42,873 - $81,645
BENEFITS: CUNY offers a comprehensive benefits package to employees and eligible dependents based on job title and classification. Employees are also offered pension and Tax-Deferred Savings Plans. Part-time employees must meet a weekly or semester work hour criteria to be eligible for health benefits. Health benefits are also extended to retirees who meet the eligibility criteria.
