Knowledge and Learning Services Weekend Position
The innovative Darien Library (CT) – one of the busiest and most highly ranked public libraries of its size in the country – seeks a bright and energetic weekend and substitute Library Assistant to work with the Knowledge and Learning Services team, the Library’s reference department.
The successful candidate will have a willingness to learn and a passion for public service. Responsibilities include staffing active information services and technology help desks, answering questions in a variety of formats, including in person, by telephone, email, and instant messaging, as well as other types of social networking. Additionally, the staff member will have the opportunity to assist with departmental tasks and projects.
Qualifications:
· College degree. Enrollment in an ALA-accredited library sciences or information sciences graduate program is preferred.
· Superior interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and with sensitivity when responding to patrons’ information needs.
· Proficiency using basic office computer applications, such as Microsoft Office and Google Docs, and a working knowledge of information literacy principles.
· Familiarity with downloadable technology and a variety of devices.
· Initiative, flexibility, ability to work in a collaborative team-based environment, and the ability to be self-motivated and work independently.
· Knowledge of Polaris ILS is preferred.
Schedule:
Ten hours per week: Saturday, 11 AM to 5 PM; Sunday, 1 PM to 5 PM. Additional hours will be available on an as-needed basis as a weekday and evening substitute. Hourly wage: $15.
