The NYU Health Sciences Libraries seeks a creative and resourceful individual for the position of Archivist. The Archivist is responsible for all aspects of archival management under the auspices of the NYU Health Sciences Libraries.

Duties:
- Serves as unit head of the Archives
- Manages the evaluation, organization, and processing of new and existing archival materials
- Manages the preparation, development, and online publication of EAD finding aids using the Archivists’ Toolkit
- Determines the preservation needs of both the archives and the general library collection
- Plays a role in digital preservation including conversion of obsolete formats, migration of legacy data and working with the Digital Projects Librarian to develop a digital preservation plan
- Provides reference and research assistance in support of historical and institutional research
- Works with other units both in the library and the medical center to coordinate the best use of technology to promote access to the archives
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with fellow staff, faculty, and hospital officials, with a focus on working with development and public affairs, as well as school alumni and their families
- Creates exhibits and contributes to local publications, as needed
- Manages digitization projects including selecting work for digitization, overseeing the digitization process, utilizing current best practice standards, and working closely with systems librarians to create online exhibits
- Contributes to the hiring process and supervises student interns and part-time staff in the Archives

Job Requirements
Experience
Required
- Master's degree in archival management, or equivalent, and/or master's degree in library and information science from an ALA-accredited institution
- Mastery of archival theory and practice
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in digital archiving, including metadata standards
- Demonstrated experience with digital imaging software
- Knowledge of current preservation techniques and methodologies
- Experience working in an academic archives environment
Preferred
- Certification in archival management by a national archives organization
- Experience with the Archivists’ Toolkit
- Knowledge of EAD and other metadata standards
- Grant proposal writing and preparation
- Fundraising experience
- Experience working in a health sciences environment
- Project management and supervisory experience
Skills
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to work well individually and in a team setting
- Proficiency in computer applications, along with enthusiasm for learning new technologies and technical skills that can advance the operation and mission of the Archives
