Knowledge Manager (KM) Resource Attorney needed for Top NYC law firm
Our client, a top NYC law firm is looking for an experienced
KM -Resource Attorney

The KM attorney works to support the litigation practice at the firm and KM initiatives firm wide and encourages the efficient and cost-effective practice of law by facilitating the creation of a knowledge-sharing culture throughout the firm.
Qualification required:
• J.D required
• A minimum of 3 years’ litigation experience in practice or research.
• In-depth understanding of litigation proceedings and detailed knowledge of form and content of corresponding documents in order to communicate effectively with lawyers, and to classify, annotate and cross-reference documents on the KM Practice Pages.
• Strong understanding of KM principles, technology and best-practices
• High ability to prepare written memoranda and correspondence and to interact with lawyers and firm personnel at all levels
• Ability to respond appropriately and effectively to lawyer and support staff needs
• Ability to understand, interpret and follow written/oral instructions in a timely manner
• Ability to work effectively with lawyers, KM staff and the other members of the IS Community/Department, combined with an ability to establish credibility with partners and associates
• Proficiency in MS Word, Lotus Notes, DeskSite and related software
• Ability to learn new applications and technologies, relevant to KM, in a timely fashion
• Initiative and ability to work independently in a deadline-driven environment,
• Ability to lead individual and group training programs
Additional Required Experience
•Provides attorneys with access to and encourages the effective use of internal and external resources by identifying, collecting, and organizing knowledge, and disseminating such knowledge in an electronically accessible form
•Facilitates collaboration with, and among, attorneys in the various practice groups so they may provide creative, cost-effective, and efficient delivery of expert legal services to clients
•Maximizes the effective use of knowledge resources through the continuous training of attorneys and the marketing of KM systems and databases firm-wide
•Collaborates with the firm's various administrative departments in the implementation of effective projects and processes that meet attorneys’ needs and priorities
•Collaborates with other groups within the IS Department to develop internal and external technological tools to support KM and IS initiatives
•Responds to litigation attorney precedent requests by assisting attorneys with identifying and framing legal issues, performing efficient and cost effective searches, and locating precedents using internal and external electronic resources
•Identifies documents, contacts, resources and other knowledge for inclusion in, and suggests and implements improvements to the information-gathering processes (best practices) and the organization and dissemination of information for, the litigation KM Practice Pages - for this purpose, attends litigation practice group meetings, calls and e-mails attorneys, and takes advantage of other electronic information transfers (e.g., group e-mails, New Business Memos, and Daily Bulletin announcements)
•Collaborates with practice group leaders and other attorneys to design effective KM systems and processes which meet the litigation practice group's needs and priorities, and establishes relationships with attorneys to promote awareness of KM initiatives, to solicit their participation in the furtherance thereof, and to stay current on issues important to the firm’s practice areas.
•May perform legal and business research
•Provides ongoing individual and group attorney and staff training on the KM Practice Pages, on other internal and external resources, and on various best practices
•Attends litigation practice group meetings to stay current on issues important to the litigation practice, and, develops meeting schedules and agendas
•Drafts and disseminates communications or status reports to attorneys and staff to inform them of current issues and developments and to promote KM initiatives
•Develops and manages taxonomies, controlled vocabularies and new database architecture for, and recommends guidelines, policies and procedures regarding the design and functionality of, and improvements to, existing KM Practice Pages and future KM systems
•Assists the firm's administrative departments and other groups within the IS Department as requested, acting as a liaison between those departments and the attorneys, by providing an attorney perspective on projects involving, and on the processes of, those departments
•Collaborates with other groups within the IS Department in monitoring the performance of external resources, troubleshooting with vendors when necessary, and coordinating attorney pilot programs of internally and externally developed databases and software
•Trains, oversees and directs the work of KM temporary staff and administrative staff, assisting KM, to ensure they perform at the highest level of productivity
•Explores new methods for building practice group intellectual capital through professional reading, networking and participating in other educational opportunities
