Digital Archive Librarian – Photo Library
The Granger Collection (www.granger.com), a historical picture library in Manhattan, is seeking a Digital Archive Librarian to manage its database and web-services department. Candidates will ideally have a background in Library Science and experience with large image collections and image-based digital asset-management systems. Ease with new technology, avid attention to detail, and experience as a team leader are required.
Responsibilities include:
n Overseeing all metadata and controlled vocabulary of digital image collection.
n Developing and maintaining keyword library and hierarchical thesaurus.
n Developing and reinforcing metadata standards, policies, and procedures.
n Reviewing image records for accuracy and consistency among metadata, captions, and keywords in accordance to house rules and industry standards.
n Reviewing of website search log to improve and enhance keyword library, image access, and retrieval.
n Performing bulk import of keywords from reps.
n Leading a team that chooses and creates online galleries of highlights from the collection.
n Overseeing a metadata team that includes part time employees and an intern.
n Providing clients with search and reference assistance.
n Collaborating with Managing Director on new digital projects, initiatives, and technology.
Requirements:
n MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited graduate program.
n Knowledge of visual resources cataloging and indexing, various metadata standards, controlled vocabularies, and authority files.
n Familiarity with digital imaging best practices.
n Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, Excel, and Adobe Photoshop.
n Knowledge of history highly desired.
