F/T (temporary) - Taxonomist - Scholastic

Taxonomist

A large children’s publishing and media company is currently seeking a Taxonomist to support a project that includes a site rebuild, content migration, and tagging. This is a full-time temporary position extending through May 31, 2011 with potential for extension.

Job Description:
The Taxonomist supports the refinement, and application of taxonomies and thesauri used to support content description, search, and navigation. Work with the senior taxonomist, search and SEO teams, and editors across multiple site channels to refine the existing taxonomies and thesauri, documenting the impact of possible changes. Coordinate cross-channel taxonomy requirements. Communicate with taxonomy team on site taxonomy issues. Assist with the creation of tagging standards and tagging documentation to be used by editorial staff for a wide range of content types. Assist in evaluation of tagging strategies and workflows. Develop browse structures to be used for site navigation. Assist in metadata attribute definition, mapping and modeling.  

Preferred Qualifications:
·         Demonstrated success in developing or managing site taxonomies
·         Experience with thesaurus construction and maintenance
·         Experience creating metadata models or schema
·         Experience with taxonomy management tools, preferably Data Harmony suite
·         Experience with content management systems, preferably Drupal
·         Familiarity with web content management, information architecture, user experience, SEO, faceted classification, and search
·         Strong interpersonal skills
·         Strong analytical and communication skills
·         Microsoft Excel skills
·         Background in education or children’s publishing and media is a plus

Requirements:
·         Bachelor’s degree
·         Minimum 7 years experience in information architecture, knowledge management or libraries
·         Minimum 5 years experience in taxonomy development and management
