Communications and Marketing Specialist - Nassau Library System

 

 We are seeking a passionate, self-starting "influencer” with exceptional communication skills to advance the mission and reputation of the Nassau Library System and its member libraries. The Nassau Library System is a cooperative library system that serves the 54 public libraries in Nassau County, NY. This is an excellent opportunity for a person who wants to use their creativity and expertise to make a difference. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Develops, maintains, and continuously improves communication channels connecting NLS, member libraries, community stakeholders, library users, traditional and digital media outlets, and other audiences 
  • Designs and implements awareness and advocacy campaigns, events, and large-scale initiatives alongside NLS colleagues and member library staff 
  • Analyzes and interprets data related to library trends to strengthen library marketing efforts
  • Develops and coordinates production of marketing and communication assets for NLS and member libraries that incorporate principles of accessibility and universal design
  • Coordinates regular continuing education opportunities for member library staff on communications and marketing topics, carried out by self and/or qualified subject specialists
  • Leads content strategy for NLS website and social media accounts; proposes, writes, and distributes communications for diverse audiences

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Journalism, Advertising, Communications, or related field with at least 4 years of relevant communications and marketing experience, preferably in the non-profit and/or library sector 
  • MLS from an ALA-accredited library school and/or library marketing experience preferred
  • Portfolio of relevant previous projects demonstrating design and communication skills, such as publicity assets, press releases, infographics, reports, video, print assets, social media
  • Excellent communication skills and able to communicate effectively, including track record of developing and delivering engaging presentations to groups, and training diverse audiences
  • Basic video/photo editing, graphic design, and visual communications proficiency
  • Proficiency with all current social media platforms and stays abreast of emerging trends
  • Able to work effectively individually and in a team-based environment 

Compensation & Benefits 

Starting salary $58,000-$73,000 depending on relevant experience and qualifications. Excellent benefits, including the potential for limited telecommuting. NLS is not subject to Civil Service. This position is part of the collective bargaining unit. Professional involvement encouraged and supported.
