F/T - Librarian II- Mgr, Cat'ing & Tech Svcs, NYIT (NY)

NYIT is seeking a Librarian II- Manager, Cataloging & Technical Services for its Old Westbury campus.

Responsibilities

New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) seeks a Manager of the Cataloging and Technical Services  for the Wisser Library on the Long Island (Old Westbury) campus. Reporting to the Director, Public and Technical Services, the Manager collaborates with the Director to set strategic directions for the unit and serves as a leader and manager for the digital services and library systems operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans, directs and manages the acquisition, cataloging, classification and processing of library materials (books, periodicals, media, electronic and print resources)
  • Supervises three librarians, and 3.5 clerical assistants.
  • Coordinates the management of SIRSI ILS with the Systems Librarian.
  • Responsible for library public services in absence of Director, Public and Technical Services.
  • Sets direction for scheduling updates and communicating new trends, software upgrades in and SIRSI ILS and OCLC applications to all library staff.
  • Oversees training for and documentation of procedures in cataloging, acquisitions, and serials.
  • Liaison to vendors such as OCLC, SIRSI, YBP, GOBI, EBSCO, etc., for technical services at all NYIT Libraries, including the Medical Library.
  • Sets procedures for eBook purchase and management.
  • Investigates and sets direction for ordering procedures and new opportunities such as PDA/DDA (patron- or demand-driven acquisitions).
  • Responsible, with Electronic Resources Librarian, for new and renewing vendor contracts, licensing and payments of databases and subscriptions for all libraries.
  • Works with NYIT legal counsel for contract review Professional development - keeping up with relevant listservs, attending local workshops, informational webinars related to subscribed products and general good library practices and annual SIRSI-Dynix users' conference.
  • Maintains understanding of new reference technologies, including LibGuides, LibCal, Website and Collection development, using GOBI Serves on institution-wide and intra-departmental committees.
  • Plans and directs preservation/digitization of the collection.
  • Collects and analyzes usage statistics for electronic resources, including cost analysis.
  • Researches and compares vendor products and offers, establishes and maintains effective vendor relations and negotiates and documents license terms and pricings.
  • Evaluates and assesses the efficiencies and effectiveness of library services and informs the director of the library’s strengths and weaknesses in meeting university needs and standards for accreditation.
  • Participates in the accreditation process.

Qualifications


Master’s in Library Science or Information Science from an ALA accredited institution and three or more years of experience in acquisitions, cataloging & metadata services in an academic or research library. Experience with supervising full-time staff. Ability to lead in an atmospheric of continuous change, to work within a collaborative environment with diverse groups and to inspire and motivate. Strong collaboration and communication skills.
